How to Find the Right Size

In order to measure yourself, you will need a soft measuring tape, and for best results, remove your bra.

Now, measure directly underneath your breasts on the rib cage, making sure to keep the tape level all the way around your torso. Pull the two sides together until they meet and lie flat against your body, but be careful not to pull too tightly. The tape should feel snug, but not constricting. Round up the measurement to the nearest even number. For example, if you measured 31″, then round up to 32. This will be your band size. However, if you measure slightly over an even number, such as 32 1/4″ or 32 1/2″, you may want to round down because bras do lose elasticity over time and will only become less supportive with frequent wear. If you are on the borderline between two sizes, personal preference will dictate which band size you should purchase.

Next, measure around the fullest part of your breasts (usually across the nipples) and round up to the nearest number. For example, a measurement of 40.5″ would be rounded to 41″.

Finally, subtract your band size from the measurement taken across your bust. From our current example, 41 – 32 = 9″. Use the information below to find your corresponding cup size.

Thus, the woman from our example would be a UK 32G or US 32I; however, European and US styles tend to be cut smaller both in band and cup. If you need to size up in the band, remember you need to size down in the cup, meaning a 32G becomes a 34FF. Because manufacturers all utilize different cuts and sizing, finding the right fit can be challenging.

Double Check the Fit

Now that you have a general idea about what size you need, take a moment to review some of these tips to ensure that you have the proper fit.

• Your band should fit snug (but not tight) on the loosest set of hooks. The elastic in all bras deteriorates with everyday wear, and your bra will last longer if your start with a snug band on the loosest set of hooks.
• The band of your bra should be centered across your back with the straps adjusted to the tops of the shoulders. It should not ride up the back or cause the straps to fall off the shoulders as this will mean your breasts hang low in the front. At least 80% of the support from your bra comes from the band, so it is important that the band fits perfectly.
• Adjust your straps. Again, the majority of weight is supported by your band, but you may need to adjust your straps looser or tighter to provide you with optimal support and comfort. Properly fitted straps will pull the cup against your breast so that it sits nicely under clothes and supports the full breast tissue.
• Check your underwire. The underwire of a bra should encase the breasts and rest firmly against your ribcage, especially in the center where the underwire meets. The wire should lie flat, completely separating your breasts. On the side of your torso, the wire should not mash your breasts or dig into the skin. Many women do not realize that there is breast tissue on the side that needs to be scooped into the cups as well. When the bra fits properly, the cup of the bra should enclose the breast tissue and be filled out and shaped by your breasts.

Common Problems

Majority of women are wearing a bra with a band size that is too big and a cup size that is too small. Thus, if the average woman buys a 34D bra, she most likely wears a 32DDD. Here are a few easy ways to tell you are in the wrong bra size:

• Your breasts pop out the bottom of the bra, especially when you raise your arms.
• Your breasts overflow from the cups of the bra causing “muffin top” or lumps.
• The straps of your bra give you deep shoulder indentations.
• The band rides up in the back.
• Your breasts are smashed together at the center of the bra or compressed by the underwire on the sides.
• The underwire digs into the your breasts or sides.
• You have frequent infections or rashes underneath the breasts.

Shared parental leave to level the gender playing field

As of 1 December this year, fathers now have the same rights as mothers when it comes to taking leave from work following the birth of a child.

For all babies due after April 2015, employers must offer shared parental leave of up to 50 weeks, rather than the father’s usual fortnight.

Fathers use holiday allowance for maternity

In a move that has been warmly welcomed by a generation of working mothers, parents can now choose how to split their paternity leave between them, opening the door to a much more equal division of childcare. Indeed, a recent survey by Mumsnet revealed that, prior to these changes, some 39% of fathers had had to use up paid leave, in order to support their partner and new baby during the postpartum period.

Now, it will be possible for up to 50 weeks’ leave and 39 weeks pay to be shared in any combination, aside from a compulsory 2 week period immediately following the birth, which must be taken by the mother. The message, it seems, is getting through: recent research by the outsourcing firm ADP found that up to a third of expectant fathers surveyed plan to take advantage of the new legislation.

Shared parenting rights

There is little doubt, however, that a cultural sea-change in attitudes will not happen overnight. Employers are concerned about the effect these changes will have on their work forces and fathers fear losing money and status if they leave their jobs for months on end.

The Scandinavian model, however, is proof that shared parenting rights can become the norm when government and businesses are working together. In Sweden, Norway and Iceland, a percentage of leave is reserved exclusively for fathers at around 80% of their salary; the so-called “Daddy quota.”

Far from creating pressures, the head of one of Norway’s biggest employment associations affirms that it, in fact, “strengthens the man’s position in the family and the woman’s in the workplace”.

In order for the new laws to make a real difference here, therefore, the Government is calling upon employers to take positive steps: making employees aware of their rights, aligning notice periods for pay and leave to make the system simpler and maintaining the right for parents to return to the same job after their leave.

In return, they can expect to gain from a system which allows them to keep talented women in the workforce and have a more motivated and productive staff as a whole.

Pamphill is a village in Dorset, situated to the north-east of Wimborne Minster. It is four miles north of Poole, and has roughly 700 inhabitants. It is on a side road off of the B3082 road from Wimborne Minster to Blandford.

The fact that Pamphill is off the main road makes it very peaceful and means roads are quiet and safer than other villages. You have to look carefully for signposts, otherwise you may miss the turning.

Pamphill is a conservation area, and many of the buildings in Pamphill are Grade II Listed.

The village is very picturesque. Has many old-fashioned thatched cottages. There is a picturesque church, a cricket ground, a Church of England Primary School, local farm shop, dairy (where you can have a cream tea) and a quaint little pub.

Not too far away from the village is Kingston Lacey Manor. This is a large 17th-century house renowned for its amazing paintings inside. It is owned by the National Trust. There is a charge to visit the Manor.

The Blue-Bell Forest

It is definitely worth a visit to see their famous ‘Blue-bell Woods’ of Abbott Street Copse. There are literally thousands of bluebells covering the woods, making it look like a carpet of blue. It is very spectacular, and something you have to see to believe. It gives the woods a fairy-tale feel to it. The trees cover give complete coverage and you feel immersed in a world of blue-bells. When I went there it felt like I was in utopia, and it really made me de-stress. I felt very chilled out. The blue-bells are at their best in late April. If you search on the internet for ‘Pamphill blue-bells’ you will see how magnificent they are.

You can walk around the woods completely free of charge and of your own accord. It is also nice to walk through the woods as part of a longer walk through the area.

It may be not as easy as it may seem to obtain a Schengen visa. Here are 8 tips that will help you go through the visa application process.

1. You can only apply for Schengen visa in the UK if you hold one of the following types of visas for the UK: spouse visa, unmarried partner visa (must be valid for at least one year), ancestral visa, working holiday visa (it is normally valid for 2 years), Tier 1 (HSMP), Tier 2, Tier 3, Tier 4 (student visa), Work Permit (valid 2 – 4 years), Limited Leave to Remain in the UK, Indefinite Leave to Remain in the UK (ILR). If you are coming to the UK on a visitor visa (which is normally valid for 6 months), you must apply for a Schengen visa in your HOME COUNTRY.

2. Before booking your trip make sure that your visa for the UK is valid for at least 3 months after you are coming back from your journey from a Schengen country.

3. For most Schengen visas you can submit an application within 3 months before your trip date. It is advisable to submit your application at least two weeks before your journey starts, but for some nationalities it may take between 3 and 4 weeks to process the visa application.

4. Your passport must be valid for at least 3 months after visa expiry date, and it must contain two blank pages for visa stamps. To get a multiple entry visa your passport must be valid for at least a year or longer from the date your journey ends.

5. If your passport was issued 10 years ago, you would need to obtain a new passport to apply for a Schengen visa. If your passport has been issued within a year, provide your old passport with the current one.

6. For most Schengen visas you can apply only after you have been in the UK for at least one month, but if you need to get a Schengen visa for Spain – you will have to wait for 6 months before you can make your first application.

7. Book appointment with the relative consulate or visa application centre well in advance. During summer time or before the bank holidays it may come to a month waiting time for an available appointment.

8. Correct documentation is key to successful visa application. You must bring your passport (s) with valid visa for the UK stamped inside the passport, photos, visa application form, employment letter (or another form of employment confirmation), pay slips, bank statements, hotel confirmation, flight confirmation, and travel insurance. If you are on a dependent visa, make sure you take your spouse passport and marriage certificate with you.

New figures released by the charity – Cancer Research U.K., indicate the contrasting trends in smoking between men and women have caused a sharp increase in lung cancer cases among women. The actual figures show a 73% rise for women, and a 47% decrease among men since 1975 (men who smoke have been on the decline since the 1950s [women who smoke did not start to drop until the 1970s]).

Other startling figures released were as follows:

• 87% of all cases diagnosed can be attributed to smoking.

As we mentioned before, the Italian consulate will issue a visa only when the applicant has spent at least three months in the UK; but this requirement can be overlooked if you hold the ancestral or spouse UK visa, EEA Family Member card or if you depend on someone who has been living in the UK for over three months. As our customer holds the ancestral UK visa, he has strong connections with a person permanently living in this country and this person can come out as the visa application sponsor. He or she will have to provide evidence of their residency and financial stability (bank statements), employment (letter from work), relationship (marriage or birth certificate) and support (letter stating that the Schengen visa applicant will be supported by this person).

If it is possible for you to collect all those documents, you will not have to wait for 1, 3 or 6 months to be able to apply for a Schengen visa.
