Portable Air Conditioners Ensure Economy And Convenience

[ad_1]

Small is beautiful and convenient and so is the portable air conditioner as it can be shifted from one place to the other very easily. Read on to find out all the other advantages.

With the onset of the damp weather, it becomes difficult to survive without constant central air conditioning but that can prove to be quite expensive. The answer to this problem is a portable air conditioner as it has many advantages. It is easy to shift from one place in the home to another and that makes a portable air conditioner the ideal cooling system solution for your home, office or industrial site.

The portable air conditioners are easy and quick to install, as they do not involve any lifting or tearing up of windowsills. Moreover it can be shifted very easily from one place in the home to the other. For taking care of the hot spots in the central air conditioning, the portable air conditioners are far more convenient than window air conditioners. It is also ideal for window shapes, which present problems for installation. There is nothing like portable air conditioners for use as a spot cooler in the home.

A portable air conditioner is an excellent choice for saving money as just one unit needs to be purchased and it can be shifted easily to where you need it as it is mounted on castors and some can weigh only about 36 pounds. Moreover, as only one room is cooled at a time instead of the whole house, the total energy consumption is very low as compared to other air conditioning systems.

Another advantage of portable air conditioners is the energy efficiency that they provide. The average efficiency is in the 8 to 10 range although some are as high as 15, which is 50 percent better than most older central air conditioners. The small size of the portable air conditioners is very advantageous and as such it can fit in a corner or against a wall. It functions like an effective dehumidifier if you do not vent the warm exhaust air out through a window and its size is also the same as that of a room dehumidifier.

In order to reduce humidity and allergies, even the small ones remove 35 pints of moisture per day from the room air. The portable air conditioners also use the heat-exchange principle as the other air conditioners to cool and dehumidify the air. The operating principle is also similar to a window air conditioner as the room air circulates over cold evaporator coils to cool and dehumidify it inside the unit. The room air is exhausted outdoor after flowing over the hot condenser. There is no chance of already-cooled indoor air escaping outside as two ducts are now used.

Nowadays, you have electronic controls in most models and you can set the desired room temperature, blower speed, start and stop timer, and operation mode (cool, dehumidify, heat). The portable air conditioners also have hand-held remote control with which you can conveniently change all the settings as per your need.

The other features of portable air conditioners include a built-in air cleaner with an optional charcoal filter and oscillating louvers to distribute the cool air throughout the room. You can also switch off the louvers to direct the flow of air towards yourself, if you so desire.

Choices in Hurricane Window Protection

[ad_1]

Hurricane shutters are the most economical, therefore the most popular solution chosen by homeowners. However, hurricane impact windows and doors are also very popular because of the added benefits of convenience, security enhancement, better energy efficiency, sound proofing and its attractiveness over shutters. The least expensive system is plywood or panels; these offer great protection, but take a great deal of time to install.

Your considerations: Cost, appearance, and convenience (this one is often under estimated).

First, understand what it is your protecting: it’s not just the shards of glass from the broken window that are dangerous – having your roof blown off will really get your attention. During a hurricane, the strong wind that blows over your home creates a ‘lift’ effect on your roof. If a window or door opening is blown open during the storm, this creates an additional upward ‘push’ on the roof, thus doubling or tripling the lifting effect. This is how roofs are blown off.

Here are the vitals on your choices for hurricane window protection for your home.

Myth Buster- Window Film and a little info on Impact Windows:

Window film can reduce the sun’s damaging rays into your home and it is promoted to be a theft deterrent. It may also very well reduce the chance for shards of glass to go flying through your home in the event of a hurricane, but do you really think slapping a thin piece of film on your existing windows is going to keep your roof on in the event of a hurricane? By comparison, impact windows are almost three times as thick as regular window glass. Hurricane windows are made up of two layers of glass and sandwiched between these layers of glass is a strong tear resistant interlayer (film) that keeps the glass together in the event it is broken. They are much like the windshield of automobiles.

A key factor in the strength of impact windows is how the glass & interlayer are VERY securely attached to a reinforced frame (both mechanically and through the use of industrial adhesives) so the impact glass does NOT detached even under extreme pressure. The goal is to establish hurricane window protection for all openings (whether one does this through the use of hurricane shutters or impact windows, or a combination of the two) and keep the openings sealed so as to not cause a change in pressure inside the home thus blowing off the roof. The idea of putting hurricane window film on a regular window with its lightweight frame and expecting it to even remotely resemble a Miami-Dade approved impact window is ridiculous. Yes, it would be better than nothing, but your money would be better spent on plywood.

Plywood Shutters ($2 – $4 / sq. ft.):

A popular and effective choice, installing plywood shutters to fit snugly inside the window or door frame is an efficient and affordable option for homeowners. These shutters were effective even in the highest winds of Hurricane Andrew, and are relatively easy to install. If you are going to use this method, the plywood needs to be 5/8″ to 3/4″ thick, and since it takes a lot of time to prepare, it should be cut to size way before we have a storm bearing down on us.

Positives:

Most inexpensive of all hurricane protective systems
Strong and can provide excellent protection

Negatives:

Require storage, but can be stacked
Heavy and difficult to handle, hanging may require more than one person
Require the most time to install
Not a safe option for 2 story homes

Storm Prep: 20 – 25 minutes per window (if pre-cut); 5 to 8 hours for an average home

Storm panel hurricane shutters ($5 – $8 / sq. ft.):

Another popular and effective choice, these hurricane shutters are typically steel or aluminum corrugated panels that attach to the walls around windows and doors. There are several mounting methods using either pre-mounted tracks and bolts or just bolts.

Positives:

Most inexpensive of the ‘permanent’ hurricane shutter systems
Strong and can provide excellent protection
Can be installed by a handy DIY

Negatives:

Require storage, but can be stacked
Can be heavy and difficult to handle, hanging may require more than one person
Time consuming – other than plywood, these require the 2nd most time to install
Have sharp edges – can be dangerous
Not a convenient option for 2 story homes

Storm Prep: 15 – 20 minutes per window; 4 to 6 hours for an average home

Accordion Hurricane Shutters ($15 – $18 / sq. ft.):

Accordion hurricane shutters are attached directly to your home at the window or door opening, folded up when they are not in use and easily unfolded, accordion-style when you need to cover and protect the opening during a storm.

Positives:

Easily deployable by one person when they are needed.
Permanently attached next to the window, don’t require storage.
Some can be locked and may be used as a theft deterrent.

Negatives:

Bulky and not attractive. Seriously consider aesthetics before purchasing these.
More mechanical parts, so may require more maintenance than other devices.

Storm Prep: 30 minutes for an entire home

Colonial and Bahama Hurricane Shutters ($18 – $28 / sq. ft.):

These are louvered hurricane shutters that attach directly to the wall beside or above the windows

Positives:

Permanently attached next to, or above the window, don’t require storage.
Easily deployable by one person when they are needed.
Since they are decorative they can beautify the home as well as protect it.

Negatives:

Cannot be used as protection for doors, must be combined with another system.
Designs and style may limit their use.

Storm Prep: 30 minutes to an hour for an entire home

Roll-Down Hurricane Shutters ($35 – $55 / sq. ft.):

These hurricane shutters attach permanently above the window in an enclosed box when they are not in use and roll down, either manually with a hand crank or electronically by motor, when you need them.

Positives:

Permanently attached next to, or above the window, don’t require storage.
Easily deployable by one person when they are needed.
Since they can be locked, they make an excellent theft deterrent.

Negatives:

One of the most expensive systems.
Requires a battery backup so they can be operated during power outages.

Storm Prep: Minimal, easiest of the hurricane shutter systems

Impact Windows ($40 – $55+ / sq. ft.):

Hurricane impact windows can withstand hurricane debris and completely eliminate the need for hurricane shutters. It costs more to retrofit an existing home, but is most cost effective if a homeowner is considering replacing old windows anyway. This is the most value added of the hurricane window protection systems, since impact windows also improve energy efficiency, are an excellent theft deterrent, provide sound deadening from outside noises, as well as give your home hurricane window protection in the event of a storm. Further, adding new impact windows is likely to increase the value of your home, more so than with any of the other hurricane protective systems.

Positives:

Eliminates the need for hurricane shutters
Great for people with 2nd homes- the home is hurricane ready all the time.
Excellent theft deterrent, nearly impossible to break through the glass.
Added value of sound deadening & energy efficiency over regular windows.

Negatives:

Like roll-down shutters, this is one of the most expensive systems.

Storm Prep: NONE

CONCLUSION:

Keep in mind that if the aesthetics of shutters is bothering you, but the cost of impact windows is nearly out of reach, you can always combine the two. Install impact windows on the front, and possibly the sides of your home. Then protect the window openings that are cannot be seen from the street with shutters.

And don’t underestimate the hassle of installing shutters every time there is a hurricane warning. I frequently go out to do estimates for impact windows on homes that have shutter panels because the homeowner is tired of dealing with installing them.

Finally, if your existing windows are in need of replacement because they are old, I encourage you to retrofit them with impact windows since the cost difference between non-impact windows with hurricane shutters versus only impact windows is marginal.

Once you have narrowed your choices to what type of hurricane window protection system is best for your situation, talk to an expert to help you in your final selection. Depending on which of the above systems best suits you, be it hurricane shutters or impact windows, there are many different style choices, and manufacturers who offer different options. Window contractors are your best experts. How to find one? Ideally, get one who is referred to you by a family member, neighbor or a friend. If they have done a good job for them, this person can provide you with a wealth of knowledge that has been learned over the years. If you must select a contractor you find online, check out their references (at least 5), call them, and go look at the contractor’s work.

Causes of Back Pain After Using A Trampoline

[ad_1]

Internet forums are full of questions concerning the connection between back pain and trampoline use. There are many different types of injuries that can occur from jumping on a trampoline, from pulled muscles to head trauma. The types of injury below may cause back pain.

Pulled Muscle

Back pain after trampolining may be caused by muscle strain. Jumping on a trampoline works muscles throughout the legs, pelvis and back, particularly stabilizer muscles. Stabilizer muscles work to protect the spine; they engage before you perform an activity, bracing the spine against harmful compression. Ideally, this bracing protects spinal discs and joints by keeping the spine aligned and absorbing some of the impact exerted on the body by movements like jumping up and down.

If your stabilizer muscles are weak, they will likely become strained (or “pulled”) from trampolining. Strained muscles suffer small tears that normally heal within three days. Localized inflammation causes pain, swelling and tenderness to the touch. A pulled muscle also hurts when it is used. Since the muscles of the back are used in nearly every motion, they can cause a significant amount of pain when pulled and take a little extra time to heal.

It is particularly easy to strain stabilizer muscles if you have an awkward or uncontrolled movement on a trampoline. As mentioned above, stabilizers engage before movement to protect the spine. If a movement occurs unexpectedly, your body doesn’t have time to prepare; the stabilizers will tense up suddenly in a last-second attempt to protect the spine. This sudden tensing can cause muscle strain.

Trampolining is generally viewed as a leisure activity, but it is also exercise. As such, it is important to warm up with dynamic stretches prior to jumping and to cool down with static stretches after jumping. It is a good idea to develop core strength before spending prolonged periods of time on a trampoline; stronger muscles suffer less strain.

Spinal Injury

It is also possible for a more severe injury to the spine to occur. This is mostly a concern if you fell off the trampoline, hit the side of it or already have a degenerative spinal issue.

If you fall off a trampoline, you may incur a dislocation of a spinal joint (subluxation) or a vertebral fracture. These may occur in spinal segments from the lower back to the neck, though subluxation is less common in the thoracic spine. Symptoms of subluxation are pain, tenderness and soreness surrounding the affected segment, muscles spasms, stiffness and weakness in the surrounding area, reduced spinal mobility and/or pain, weakness or numbness in the extremities. Vertebral fracture causes sudden and severe pain that is worsened by standing, walking, bending and twisting. If you or your child experiences any of these symptoms after an awkward landing or fall on the trampoline, seek examination by a medical professional.

The jarring associated with jumping on a trampoline can exacerbate preexisting disc degeneration. Discs work to absorb shock between vertebrae; when a disc is worn, bulging or herniated, it fails to cushion the bones around it. Herniated or bulging discs may compress nerves as they exit the spine, causing pain, numbness and weakness along the nerve pathway into an arm or leg. Jumping on a trampoline can cause asymptomatic disc abnormalities to become symptomatic or can make already-present symptoms worse. Though disc wear can occur in younger people, it is more of a concern for people over 30.

The above injuries are not the only concerns associated with trampolining. Statistics of severe injuries, mostly incurred by children, have spurred the American Academy of Pediatrics to call for a ban on trampolines for backyard use. For a list of statistics and other injury types, see http://physical-therapy.advanceweb.com/Article/Bouncing-Back-Treating-Trampoline-Injuries.aspx.

If you choose to assume the risks of trampolining, make sure any children using the trampoline are supervised and following basic safety guidelines provided at http://www.livestrong.com/article/134355-trampoline-safety-rules/.

Facts You Must Know About Back Pain

[ad_1]

Agonizing pain in the back can be such a “pain in the neck.” Prolonged back pain can be an agony to its victim and can be very annoying at times.

Unfortunately there is no quick fix for back pain medically, its elusiveness to medical solution for many decades has been a mystery.

Be careful how you use your back, for it is the power house for the entire body supporting your trunk and making the movements of the head, hands and legs possible.

Any serious problem with the back can result in unimaginable consequences. Most funny and distressful feelings in the hands and legs are as a result of problems in the neck or waist.

So it is always important to think BACK before you act in most activities you engage yourself doing. Don’t use your back as crane to lift heavy loads, carrying loads from deep car boots has caused uncountable pain problems to many people. Agonizing back pain can restrict your daily activity, reduce your work capacity and diminish your quality of enjoyment of everyday living.

To be frank, the social and business lives of most people have been restricted drastically. Most people who are back pain sufferers, may have either had their business commitments reduced or completely stopped.

To some their social engagements may either have been brought to a gradual stop or even to an abrupt stop. To these victims of chronic back pain, attending social gathering such as business meetings, weddings, official meetings, parties, etc may have diminished. Many people, especially those in their middle ages have lost their sex life to this monster. The list is endless. Preventive measures for back pain are more cost-effective and it works. Always think back whenever you are engage in any type of activity learn the correct body mechanics of lifting loads, carrying objects, pushing vehicles and even in activities involving conjugal obligation among couples.

To take proactive measures against back pain are cheaper in terms of cost and convenient comfortable. Drug or curative measures are unreliable and expensive. Thousands of people who are victims of these agonizing illness can attest to the fact that the drugs and medicines prescribed for them have been unimpressive, ineffective and 95 per cent unnecessary.

More so, the uncountable medical appointments to doctors’ consulting rooms for reasonable solution to their common disturbing pain in the back have been waste of valuable time.

Choosing Right Hydraulic Crane

[ad_1]

The usage of cranes is not new to the construction world. It has been in use since several centuries, but in last few decades the cranes have seen latest development. They are now available in variety and are technically more advanced. Involvement of cutting-edge technology has made it extraordinary performer in construction.

Among several categories of cranes, hydraulic is one which is widely used for the mobility of heavy equipments. Hydraulic cranes are used for lifting heavy items while machine in stable position. This heavy machine is available in various sub categories.

Usually people don’t buy them, rather prefer to hire them for specific period. If you are planning to hire any such machines, ensure that you choose the right option for your construction. Because construction is not limited to building only, requirement for lifting weighty items may vary. Hence, it is necessary that you are aware of all sorts of hydraulics.

  • Tower crane It is a latest crane which can be fixed on the ground and attached to buildings or structures as well. These are highly preferred for tall buildings as they have the capability to lift heavy items to the considerable height.
  • Self erecting crane –It is a sort of tower crane but with some special features. It can be lifted from the ground to allow another segment of crane to be placed, providing the ease of assembling these machines even in absence of external help.
  • Railroad crane –As the name suggests, it is widely accepted for the maintenance of railroads. Its flanged wheels are the special feature that makes it capable to travel upon the tracks. Simple form of this category is also available that can be mounted onto complicated models like a rail car, in order to customize the design.
  • Telescopic crane –It is an instant solution for short term rescue or construction jobs, because of its compact structure. It incorporates few tubes fitted one inside the other in its boom. Its hydraulic system gets wider to create compression in these tubes. This further helps to alter the overall length of the boom.
  • Manual crane –It is used no more ever since advance versions of electric hydraulic cranes have been introduced. Yet, they are brought in use in absence of power or to save the electricity cost.

Cranes have always been an essential part of constructing buildings, roads, railway tracks, runways, bridges, dams, etc. Latest advancement in cranes, especially in hydraulics has opened a huge scope to choose an ideal machine in respect of the type of construction.

0X800f0906 Error Windows 10 (.NET Framework Installation Error Fix)

[ad_1]

.NET Framework is a piece of software, developed by Microsoft, which provides a number of core features to the Windows platform.

Any applications developed in “.NET” have the benefit of a range of different upgrades, features and libraries which are not available without the package.

The tradeoff is that in order to get the applications working on your system, you need to have.NET installed and running. This error tends to show when you try and install the 3.5 version of it.

The fix – according to Microsoft – is to actually perform a core update of the Windows OS from an ISO file. This isn’t a major issue but there are also a number of other steps you can take too.

Cause

The error typically shows with the following message:

Error: 0x800f0906

The source files could not be downloaded.

0x800F0906 – CBS_E_DOWNLOAD_FAILURE

Error code: 0x800F0906

The cause of the problem is that the “Windows Image” is corrupt.

This means that certain files, settings and options within the Windows OS will not be working properly, leading the error to appear.

The solution is a blend of updating Windows and ensuring that there are no core errors with its settings etc.

Solution

1. SFC/DISM

The “SFC” (System File Checker) + “DISM” (Deployment Image Servicing and Management) applications are standard elements of the Windows ecosystem.

Whilst they are highly effective, they’re not that good at fixing the 0x800f0906 error unfortunately.

Nonetheless, they are the least intrusive way to work towards a solution, and thus need to at least be attempted before doing any more heavy-lifting.

  • Press “Windows” + “S” keys on keyboard
  • This will bring up the “search” box, into which you should type “CMD”
  • From the list that appears, right-click “Command Prompt” with your mouse and choose “Run as Administrator”

When it loads, type the following:

  • “SFC /scannow”
  • This will run for some time – after which it will show the “results” of the progress (it should be okay)
  • Once complete, type “DISM /Online /Cleanup-Image /RestoreHealth”
  • This will perform another scan – let it run and then in the end it should showcase the results for you
  • Restart your PC

The point of this is to clean up any of the “system” files that may be present on your system.

Windows has a large number of “system files” which are required to keep it running as smoothly as possible. Both SFC + DISM are able to fix the majority of these problems, but not all.

It’s highly likely that the 0x800f0906 error will not be resolved with this step alone.

2. Internet Connectivity

The next step is to check Internet connectivity.

This might sound trivial, but it’s often the case that a large number of systems will have specific issues with the way their Internet is connected.

If you want to make sure that your computer is able to download the appropriate files / updates, you need to ensure that the Internet is fully working:

  • Load up your preferred web browser
  • Try connecting to the “Windows Update” website

If the connection works in a browser, you’ll need to try it from CMD:

  • Press “Windows” + “S” keys on your keyboard
  • In the “search” box that appears, type “CMD”
  • Right-click the listings and select “Run As Administrator”
  • Type: “ping update. Microsoft. com” (without spaces)
  • If the ping is successful, it should be okay

3. Group Policy Settings

If the above does not work, you’ll need to ensure your user account has the correct permissions to actually download various updates (such as.NET).

  • Press “Windows” + “S” keys on your keyboard
  • In the “Search” box, type “Group Policy” and click on the “Edit Group Policy” listing which appears

In the applet which loads, do the following:

  • Select “Computer Configuration” from the left sidebar
  • Select “Administrative Templates” + “Systems”
  • From the list that appears, select “Specify settings for optional component installation and component repair”
  • Select “Enabled” from the left settings menu
  • Click “OK”
  • Try installing.NET again

If this does not work, it is likely that the “source” for the installation is corrupt or damaged. To solve this, we can use the Windows installation medium.

4. Windows Installation Medium

Lastly, you want to try using the Windows Installation Medium to create a set of new files which any.NET installation is able to use.

This is a common practice, and can be done using the following steps:

  • Search for “Windows Media Creation Tool”
  • Click on the first Microsoft site that appears
  • Click the “Download Tool Now” button
  • Save the file to your hard drive & load it up
  • Select “Create ISO”
  • Follow the steps to create an ISO (which you should then double-click to “mount”)

Once the ISO is mounted, you will then be able to reference its files as required.

To do this effectively, you’ll be able to use the third step – except, this time you’ll be able to manage the “source” to include the installation files that your system may need.

You can do this using the following:

  • Follow the “Group Policy Settings” steps in step 3
  • Before clicking “OK”, input “[[ISO drive path]]/sources/sxs” into the “Alternate source file path” box
  • Run “gpupdate /force”
  • Add the.NET feature
  • Restart your PC

If the above do not work, it suggests you have a deeper issue within Windows.

To resolve this, you’ll either need to talk to someone with direct access to your system, or people who are able to categorize the error for you. Obviously, an Internet article cannot do that.

How the Bowflex SelectTech Adjustable Dumbbells Work

[ad_1]

Now you can change the weight of your dumbbells with just the twist of a dial. If you’ve seen the infomercial for Bowflex SelectTech Adjustable Dumbbells, you may be wondering how they work. All you have to do, is turn the dial on the end of the dumbbell to the weight that you want to use, and when you lift the dumbbell out of the cradle, it will weigh exactly that amount. The key is in a patented locking mechanism that lets the dumbbell base find and pick up the weight plates that add up to the weight that you want, and lock them into place on the handle. That way, when you lift, only those plates lift out of the base.

The SelectTech adjustable dumbbells come in two different versions, each one packing the equivalent of 30 individual dumbbells into a single pair. Each SelectTech 552 dumbbell adjusts to fifteen different weight settings from five pounds to 52.5 pounds. The SelectTech 220 Adjustable dumbbells adjust from 2 pounds to 20 pounds. They also let you do something that’s tough to do with most adjustable sets and impossible with fixed dumbbells – vary the weight on either side of the dumbbell. And they make changing the weight on your dumbbells as easy and quick as turning a dial.

All right. Now you can say it – how do they DO that?

How Conventional Dumbbells Work

Dumbbells are designed to be gripped and lifted with one hand, adding weight and resistance to your exercises. You can use just one to work out one side of your body (in bicep curls, for instance) or one in each hand to get a bilateral workout. Add a pair of dumbbells to standing lunges and you increase the weight-bearing for your lower body as well as adding a nice upper body workout to the mix.

In order to get the most benefit out of dumbbells, you need different weights – for different exercises and to increase weight as your muscles build. One way is to have a set of dumbbells in each weight that you want to use. That works fine – until your collection starts to outgrow your home gym. Adjustable dumbbells are a solution to that problem. Instead of adding a complete set of dumbbells in every weight increment you need, you’ve got a pair of bars and sets of weights in different weight increments.

Adjustable dumbbells used to look a whole lot like the baby cousins of barbells. Conventional adjustable dumbbells consist of a short bar, a pair of weights and a safety collar. If you want to change the weight, you unscrew the lock on the collar, slide the collar off the bar, slide the weight off the bar, slide the new weight onto the bar, replace the collar and screw it down to lock it. Then you repeat the whole process on the other end.

SelectTech Dumbbells Dial-a-Weight Technology Makes It Easy

Bowflex SelectTech adjustable dumbbells are a whole new breed of adjustable. Each dumbbell consists of a handle, a base and ten interlocking slotted weight disks. When the handle is in place in the base, the dumbbell looks just like a miniature barbell with a full set of weights on the bar.

At either end of the handle, you’ll find a dial knob marked with numbers from 5 to 52.5. To select a weight all you do is turn the dial knob until it clicks into place at the weight you want, then lift the handle. The patented locking mechanism selects the right weight disks to equal your chosen weight so that only those disks come up with the handle. The remaining disks remain locked in the base. That really is all there is to it – turn the dial on each end to the weight you want and lift the dumbbell out of its base.

Changing the weight is just that easy, too. Just lower the dumbbell into its base, turn the dials on both sides of the dumbbell to your new weight, then lift. That’s it.

How SelectTech Works

The ten weight plates each have a slot into which the handle fits. When the disks are all in place, the handle can be set into the base, settling into the slots. As long as the weight dials are set to 5 – the weight of the handle by itself – the handle will lift freely from the slots without picking up any weights.

Suppose you want to work out with a 7.5 pound dumbbell. You simply turn the handle dial to 7.5 until you feel the click. The locking mechanism in the handle will close and lock over the outermost weight plate (1.25 pounds), locking it onto the handle. Do the same on the other end, and the lock closes over the 1.25 pound weight plate on that end. Lift the handle straight up from the base and the two locked weight plates lift with it – leaving the rest behind in the base.

Want 20 pounds? Since the handle weighs five pounds, you need fifteen pounds in weights. Divided evenly that’s one five pound and one 2.5 pound weight on each end – but you don’t have to figure all that out. Just turn the dial selector on either end to twenty, and the patented lock does the math for you. When you lift the handle out of the base, the right weight plates to add up to twenty will be locked into place.

Bowflex Patented SelectTech System is Safer Than Conventional Dumbbells

The patented locking system is designed for safety as well as convenience. The weight disks are permanently locked in place like a Chinese puzzle. In order to lift the handle out of the base, the weight selector dials must be properly set. If the dial isn’t clicked into place, the base won’t release the handle, so there’s no chance of a weight disk slipping off the bar because it’s not properly locked. If the lock isn’t completely engaged, you can’t pick up the dumbbell.

Once you’ve lifted the dumbbell from the base, the dial can’t be turned, so there’s no chance of them coming unlocked and falling off the bar. The locking mechanism also holds the disks firmly in place. There’s no wobbling from weights that aren’t properly tightened down – you get the same balance you’d get from a single, molded dumbbell.

SelectTech Adjustable Dumbbells for Offset Weight Training

Generally, you’ll want the weight on both ends of the dumbbell to be equal, but the SelectTech also allows you to choose different weights for either end of the bar. By allowing you to use unequal weights on either end, the SelectTech system increases your workout and training options. Offset training can help you strengthen forearm and wrist muscles, something that conventional dumbbells aren’t designed to do. It’s a great way to get some extra power into your tennis swing and increase the flexibility, strength and range of motion in your wrists. The owner’s manual even includes a handy reference chart to tell you which weight to select at either end for various weight combinations.

Space-saving Stand Holds SelectTech Dumbbells At Just the Right Height

Bowflex also makes a specially designed stand for the SelectTech. The stand is ergonomically designed to hold the weights at the right height and position for safe lifting. The space-saving design encourages proper positioning of your body and grip to help you avoid strain or injury when picking up the SelectTech dumbbells. It’s the perfect storage option between workouts.

The experts all agree that working out with dumbbells is an excellent addition to your strength training routines. Dumbbells help you develop balance and precision, and make it possible to work on areas that are neglected in bilateral training with barbells or weight machines. Bowflex SelectTech adjustable dumbbells are the perfect way to add a full range of dumbbell weights to your workout in just one small, power-packed piece of equipment.
