How Much Space Does Nutrisystem Food Take Up?

[ad_1]

I recently received an email where the writer asked me how much room she would need to store her nutrisystem meals. She lived in an apartment which was relatively small and she did not have access to a freezer so she was not sure if this diet was going to work for her. I reassured her that, depending on which plan she chooses, she should be able to make it work. I will discuss this more in the following article.

Storing The Nutrisystem Advanced Meals: Now, there are frozen entrees with this diet, but they come in a separate plan called Nutrisystem Select. These are restaurant quality meals that are quite good, and do require a freezer. However, most people order what is called Nutrisystem Advanced. And these meals have gone through what they call a “soft canning” process that allows for the meals and packages to be in a soft pouch or small container and to lay flat.

Different foods have different packaging but all of them are pretty compact. For example, many of the dinner and lunch foods like the pastas, stir fries, and meat type meals come in a round container. These easily stack on top of one another. The hamburgers and hot dogs come in sort of a flat box. And the shakes and puddings come in a very small package that takes up almost no room.

Honestly, I think that even an entire monthly package that includes five small meals per day could almost completely be stored in one kitchen cabinet. If you don’t have the cabinet space, then you could easily just place your meals in a plastic bin for storage somewhere else. In fact, a lot of the meals are small enough to fit inside of a pull out drawer. The point I’m making is that you don’t need to set aside tons of room and you don’t have to limit yourself to small orders just to be able to fit everything.

Buying small orders is going to cost you more money in the long run and isn’t necessary anyway. By placing small orders, you’re sacrificing being able to use the really good and substantial coupons that take your cost per meal down significantly. So if you’re one of those folks who worries that you don’t have the room for nutrisystem, I think you’ll be pleasantly surprised. And honestly, this food takes up less space than regular groceries, at least in my experience.

Latest Range of LG Fridge Freezers

[ad_1]

It seems that the current must-have kitchen appliance is a big fridge freezer. The Americans got there first, but the UK is catching up quickly, and bigger is certainly better. But it’s not just size that counts – looks are important too – and if you have a modern kitchen, one of the new American-style fridge freezers from LG will complement your built-in units and other appliances magnificently.

LG may not be the first company that you’d think of when choosing a new fridge freezer, as the Korean manufacturer is perhaps better known in the UK for its mobile phones and flat screen TV’s, but the latest range of fridge freezers from LG will look simply stunning in your kitchen. However the range of products on offer can be quite confusing, so in this article we take a look at the latest batch of LG fridge freezers released just in time to store the Christmas 2010 leftovers.

The top-of-the-range products in the range are the American-style side-by-side fridge freezers, which are the largest in the range and offer the convenience of having both the refrigerator and the freezer sections at eye level. The three models of this type are the LG GS7161AELV, with a gross capacity of 613 litres and a Brushed Steel finish; the LG GWL227HHXV, with a gross capacity of 606 litres and a Shine-Steel finish; and the LG GWB207FVQA, finished in Glossy White and with 591 litres gross capacity.

Features common to all the side-by-side range are:

– Total No Frost, which eliminates the hassles of defrosting, keeping the inside of the refrigerator de-iced, odour-free, and easy to clean. And, because the refrigerator isn’t working harder to compensate, it saves you money on your energy bills.

– The Moist Balance Crisper uses a unique, lattice-type sheet that prevents moisture accumulation in the storage bins, keeping fruit and veg fresher for longer.

– A Bioshield, which sounds like something out of a Sci-Fi film, but simply means that the gasket is treated with an anti-microbial agent, preventing mould growth which could distort and stain the seal.

– LED Display located on the outside of the door to enable easy adjustments to all settings.

– Digital Sensors – monitor temperature throughout the machine to maintain the fridge and freezer compartments at the desired temperatures.

– Door Open Alarm.

– A child lock, helping to keep your children safe and your food safe too!

The GS7161AELV is the largest of the three, measuring 894 x 1753 x 790 mm (Width x Height x Depth) with a refrigerator capacity of 372 litres and a freezer of 172 litres. The GS7161AELV features a door-mounted ice maker. The Vacuum Fresh option sucks air out of the vegetable compartment to keep your veg fresh for longer. Refrigeration is provided by a linear compressor, which is quieter and more energy efficient than conventional compressors. Energy efficiency is also aided by the use of long-life LED lighting instead of conventional light bulbs. You should be able to buy the LG GS7161AELV for around £1,300.

The GWL227HHXV is the middle-sized unit, measuring 894 x 1753 x 753 mm (Width x Height x Depth) with a refrigerator capacity of 365 litres and a freezer of 172 litres. Like its larger brother, the GWL227HHXV uses a linear compressor, making it quieter and more energy efficient than a conventional fridge freezer. It also has the Vacuum Fresh feature and a door-mounted ice maker. The GWL227HHXV is a plumbing-free fridge, so no pipes need to be plumbed in and there’s no need to change a water filter. Instead you just need to fill a fitted container with fresh water to generate chilled water and ice. You should be able to buy the LG GWL227HHXV for around £1,000.

The GWB207FVQA is the smallest of the three, measuring 894 x 1753 x 725 mm (Width x Height x Depth) with a refrigerator capacity of 349 litres and a freezer of 178 litres. It is the least energy efficient of the three units, consuming approximately 20% more energy than the two larger machines as a result of using a conventional compressor to provide refrigeration. It also lacks an ice dispenser, although there is a normal ice tray in the freezer compartment. You should be able to buy the LG GWB207FVQA for between £600 and £700.

Hopefully this article has helped to explain the differences between these three fridge freezers. Needless to say, all three are great-looking products from a reliable manufacturer and any one of these would be a welcome addition to anyone’s Christmas stocking!

The Right Way to Move a Refrigerator

[ad_1]

There are many times a person may need to move a refrigerator in his or her lifetime. Often, a person may be moving to a new home and simply can not part with a Whirlpool fridge freezer or Bosch fridge. These are two high quality brands of refrigerators that no person wants to lose out on, simply because he or she could not move them to a new home.

To begin the process of safely moving a refrigerator, a person should first gather the necessary supplies. A person will need a large moving dolly of some sort, as well as cleaning supplies. In addition, a person should have rope, moving blankets, and tape on hand to go forward with the moving process.

Moving a refrigerator will likely take about twelve hours of one’s time. After one has gathered the necessary supplies, he or she should make sure to empty the entire fridge of its contents. A person should also remove any magnets or calendars that may be attached to the fridge.

Next, a person will need to unplug the refrigerator and allow the freezer part to defrost. One does not want his or her Smeg fridge freezer to break during the moving process, simply because he or she forgot to allow it time to defrost. After allowing the freezer to defrost, a person should remember to clean it out the next day.

It is a wise idea to tape all of the shelves and doors of a fridge shut. This way, the shelves will not fly out in case the fridge moves around in a moving truck.

Now that the fridge is prepared to be moved, a person should use the dolly to transport it to a moving truck. Two people should be used for moving the fridge onto a dolly and then moving the dolly to a moving truck. This will prevent any person from being injured due to a back strain. A person will then pull a fridge up the ramp of a moving truck.

After moving the fridge to its new destination, a person should position it into its new space. A person should give a fridge about three hours to settle before plugging it in. By allowing the fridge these few hours, any liquids in the fridge will be able to settle. This is critical for the cooling mechanism of any fridge.

After this time has passed, then a person may plug it in and should leave the fridge alone for 3 days. Three days is required for any fridge to reach an optimum temperature. Also, a person should always read the manual that goes along with a fridge, to determine the safest ways to reinstall it in a home.

The Smeg Fab32 Fridge Freezer and the Smeg Fab30 Fridge Freezer Open Their Doors

[ad_1]

There’s almost nothing one can say about the new range of Smeg fridge freezers that they don’t say better themselves. Talk about trend setting: the Smeg fab32 fridge freezer, and the Smeg fab30 fridge freezer look good enough to live in, let alone keep frozen vegetables in.

Smeg’s reputation for design is always going to precede a new launch from the company, whose status as leading light in the world of functional retro cool is unassailed. So any mutterings about new Smeg gear are usually met with a mixture of glee and fearful anticipation: what if, this time, they’ve finally lost their touch? Well, they haven’t. Not at all. Both the new fridge freezers, and their similarly named cousins besides, look like they’ve been imported from the 1950s by way of a super-intelligent future-dwelling space designer. The Smeg fab30 fridge freezer, and the Smeg fab32, are both available in a series of shockingly groovy colors – enough that any kitchen, anywhere on earth and quite a few places off of it, will be more then complemented by the hue. From the frankly awesome lime green to the range’s flagship red (imagine a classic sports car you can keep cheese in), these new Smeg appliances ooze style and class to beat the band.

So – what are the numbers for? Simple. Add a zero and you’ve got the storage capacity in liters, of each one. Making the Smeg fab30 fridge freezer worth a whopping 300 liters of food and drink – and the Smeg fab32 even more generous, swallowing 3200 liters. Enough, then, to feed a family of five with room to spare. The new Smegs don’t just look good – they’ve been designed as well as all the old Smeg stuff, too.

Favorite design features include specifiable hinge locations, allowing customers to have a fridge freezer whose doors either open to the right or to the left; and the wonderful coalition of old styles and new lines, which manages to make the new Smegs in town look as though they’ve come from a future obsessed with all that was great about the past. There’s a nice even split between fridge space and freezer space, too, ensuring that the Smeg fab30 and the Smeg fab32 both manage to sidestep the traditional shortcoming of most oversize fridge and freezer combinations. The fab30 loses a little freezer space here, presumably in order to retain the generous fridge capacity – but, overall, both are excellent bets for the household with large storage requirements and an eye for fashion.

There aren’t many appliances on this or any other planet that look good enough to cause actual desire: but the new Smegs do so with ease. So much so, in fact, that one has to wonder whether anyone considering a new fridge freezer (provided, of course, they’re as hip to the groove as the design team at Smeg) would even look at another option. The Smeg fab32 and the Smeg fab30 have landed. Don’t ask from where. Just be happy they’re here.

How Laboratory Refrigerators and Freezers Are Used in the Lab

[ad_1]

A laboratory refrigerator or lab freezers have an obvious and essential function; these units are used to cool or freeze samples for preservation. Typically, refrigerators are used to store samples at a temperature between – 5 and 15 degrees Celsius, while freezers will normally store samples at a temperature between – 25 and – 15 degrees Celsius.

Some laboratory freezers are used to store biological samples such as vaccines at a significantly lower temperature. Cryogenic freezing is also used in some laboratories, but requires specialized equipment that is capable of generating and tolerating exceptionally low temperatures. Ultra low temperature freezers (usually -50 degrees C and below) commonly use a dual compressor cascade type of system to reach these low temperatures. The first compressor is used to obtain a temperature of around -40 degrees C, after which the second compressor kicks in to achieve the lower temperature that is needed. These lab freezers will be usually be noisier than a -20 degrees C freezer, create more heat output into the room and will use more energy. They are also more expensive to repair than a standard laboratory refrigerator or freezer if the compressor needs to be replaced, since this will require a repair technician who specializes in these somewhat exotic compressors.

Lab refrigerators and freezers include equipment for storing samples and special instrumentation used for conducting experiments requiring precise temperature control. For example, a lab refrigerator can be used to set up chromatography apparatus within the refrigerator chamber.

Refrigeration and freezing equipment is also used for the storage of medical or pharmaceutical supplies. A blood bank uses a lab refrigerator to preserve the quality of its blood supply. Laboratory refrigerators and lab freezers that store blood and blood products must meet a variety of regulatory and quality standards for obvious reasons. They normally come with an alarm system to warn laboratory personnel of an equipment failure. Plasma can be stored frozen in a plasma freezer for an extended time period. Since the typical expiration date is one year from the collection date, the problem of maintaining an adequate blood supply is greatly reduced. Pharmacies may also use a laboratory refrigerator to store vaccines, medications and other temperature sensitive compounds.

Laboratory refrigerators and laboratory freezers include equipment for freezing blood plasma or other blood products for future use. Some lab freezers are used to store enzymes or other biological reagents used to conduct tests. Laboratory refrigerators and laboratory freezers may be stand-alone, upright units or may fit under the lab counter. A lab freezer may also be fitted with locks to restrict entry, and may even be designed to safely insulate flammable materials from electrical sparks. Some laboratory refrigerators and laboratory freezers are also used as incubators that cycle between a heating period and a refrigeration period. These types of refrigerators are often used for culturing and monitoring the growth of bacteria.

Flammable chemicals that require refrigeration must only be stored in a laboratory refrigerator that is designed for the safe storage of flammables. A flammable liquid is defined as having a flash point of less than 100 degrees F (38 degrees C). Flammable storage laboratory refrigerators are UL approved for storage of flammable chemicals; lab freezers are often used for this purpose as well. Flammable storage refrigerators have no electrical sparking devices, relays, switches or thermostats that could ignite flammable vapors inside the cabinet. They may also incorporate design features such as thresholds, self-closing doors, magnetic door gaskets and special inner shell materials that control or limit the damage should a reaction occur within the storage compartment.

A label stating ‘Flammable Materials Refrigerator: Keep fire away’ should identify such refrigerators. Flammable storage units cannot be placed in a room containing explosive vapors, but chemicals that exude explosive vapors can be safely stored inside them. They are called lab-safe, fire-safe or explosion safe refrigerators. These refrigerators are more costly than the standard household or even laboratory refrigerator for that matter, but they must be used if flammables will be stored in the refrigerator.

Explosion proof laboratory refrigerators and lab freezers are rated UL explosion-proof and are similar in design to the flammable storage units, but they also have all operating components sealed against entrance of explosive vapors. Electrical junction boxes are also sealed after connections are made. These units are approved for storage of volatile materials in areas with explosive atmospheres and are the most costly of all types. This type of refrigerator is only required when storing flammable materials in an area with an explosive atmosphere such as a solvent dispensing room. An explosion proof laboratory refrigerator has very limited use on campus and require special hazardous location wiring rather than simple cord and plug connections.

Maytag SOV628ZB American Fridge Freezer – Review

[ad_1]

Recently, my fridge broke down and my freezer is leaking on all sides already. I figured it would be a good idea to replace them both with a genuine American style fridge freezer combination. I wasn’t sure which one I was going to purchase, but after some research online I ended up buying the Maytag SOV628ZB fridge freezer. I received it shortly after buying it and it was delivered to me and installed as well. So far, I am very content with my new fridge because it does a great job of keeping my food and beverages cold.

Maytag SOV628ZB American Fridge Freezer – Review

This integrated fridge freezer is very large. Only buy this if you have the space to place it or it will get in your way. If you have a large family like I do, then you will be more than happy to know that this fridge can store enormous amounts of foods and beverages. Next to having a lot of functionality, it also looks very nice. It has a unique zig-zag design which gives you the most space at the top of the fridge. This is also the place where you need it, because you don’t want to be bending at the knees every single time you want to get something from your fridge. The fully stainless steel body makes it a solid and sturdy American fridge freezer that will last you at least two decades.

There are 4 tempered glass shelves in this fridge. All of them also have spill guards. The door has no less than 5 balconies, an egg tray and a dairy compartment. There are two crisper drawers that are humidity controlled. These drawers will keep your fruit and vegetables in optimum condition. You can also store fish or meat in the chef’s pantry draw. This pantry draw has a zero degree option. Then there is the frost free freezer which has 4 door balconies, 2 of which are tilting. It also has wire baskets so you can freeze your food quicker and more efficient.

This American fridge freezer has an LCD controlled dispenser, which you can use to make chilled, filtered water or cubed ice on tap. My kids love having ice cubes on demand! Other features that are worth mentioning are the auto defrost feature in the freezer and the relatively low energy usage. Naturally, this fridge does an excellent job at preserving food and keeping my favorite beverages cold as ice! I recommend the Maytag SOV628ZB to anyone that has the space to place this.

How to Repair Your Own Samsung Side-By-Side Fridge Freezer

[ad_1]

This information applies specifically to the Samsung RS21 range of Fridge Freezers. These are the most popular of the Samsung range of Side-by-Side fridge freezers currently in use in the UK today.

The RS21 range of models have a common fault symptom affecting the fridge section only. If, like many other owners of this model, you are finding that the fridge is getting too warm, just follow these simple directions and within seconds you will know the cause of this fault.

All models of Samsung Fridge Freezers including the RS21 range, have a clever self diagnosis facility built into the control module of each appliance. This self diagnosis facility is easily accessed by making use of the control panel on the front of the freezer door. This panel consists of four buttons and two separate digital temperature displays (one showing the temperature of the freezer compartment and the other showing the temperature of the fridge compartment).

Press the two top buttons of the control panel, holding them both down together for eight seconds. After the eight seconds, you will hear a regular ‘pinging’ sound. Keep holding the two buttons for one more second, and then release both buttons.

Now look carefully at the digital fridge temperature display (the right-hand pair of numbers) which is immediately below the two buttons that were being pressed. If there is a fault with the fridge section, you will see that one of the lines (that would normally make up the number on the display) is flashing. As an example of this, if the lowest horizontal one is flashing, it is indicating that the fridge fan motor has failed.

The fault mentioned above is probably the most common one that occurs, and the fault can be easily and safely repaired yourself without the need of an engineer. Spare parts for these Samsung models are available at reasonable prices. If you find that a different line is flashing on the digital temperature display, it will mean that there is a different cause of the fault.

If instead the freezer is faulty, one of lines of the digital temperature display for the freezer (the left-hand pair of numbers) will be flashing. Again, each specific line of the freezer digital temperature display represents a different freezer fault.

Please note that whenever the fridge freezer has been unplugged from the electrical power supply, the self diagnosis information, discussed above, will be deleted. Don’t worry though, just plug it in again and wait for the fault to show itself again. This usually happens within about twelve hours.

Whenever you do this test, after a short time (about thirty seconds) the control panel will automatically come out of this self diagnosis mode and go back to the normal operation mode.

The Factors to Consider When Choosing a Freezer

[ad_1]

The freezer is an important item in any home. If you are considering the option of purchasing a freezer for the kitchen it is advisable to do your research before finalizing the decision. Before purchasing a model it is important to find out whether the brand has readily available freezer spares.

As you do your shopping you will discover a wide range of freezers and spares to choose. Some of the common spares include the basket, water filters, thermostat, shelf, salad crisper, motor, lamp, hinge, handle, drawer, door seal, castor and bottle rack- among other parts. The factors that need to be considered when choosing a freezer include:

· The size

It is important to find out whether the new appliance will fit perfectly into the house. Make sure to carry measurements of your kitchen space before making the decision to purchase the appliance. If in doubt, you can consider asking someone who has knowledge about what they are doing, to consider taking up the measurements for you. You must understand freezers are available in a wide variety of heights, widths and storage volumes. Therefore, there is an appliance that is right for every kitchen.

· Storage capacity

Before choosing a freezer it is important to consider your food habits so that you may choose a storage space that you will need for your freezer. Some of the things to take into consideration include: the number of fridge shelves that you would like; salad boxes that you need; amount of the inside door space; integrated ice trays; and bottle holders & wine racks.

You will also need to determine the freezer capacity. Find out how many drawers you would like for your freezer and how much of your food you would like stored in each of the drawers. The storage capacity is usually measured in liters and described in food storage volume.

· Energy efficiency

The purchase price of the freezer is not the only factor to have in mind when determining affordability. It is important to find out the cost of running the freezer in the long-term. An energy efficient model can save you a substantial amount of money because it utilizes less electricity. Freezers are rated between A+ and B, with A+ rating considered the most efficient.

· Style

White freezers are still popular. However, there is a wide choice to choose from if you want something different. Black and silver freezers are increasingly becoming popular. For homeowners with a lot of space they can consider the ‘side-by-side’ freezers.

Whirlpool American Fridge Freezer – An Easy 7 Point Guide

[ad_1]

This article is for someone who is considering buying a Whirlpool American fridge freezer. This maybe because they already trust this brand from prior purchases or from a recommendation given by a friend. Now is the time to narrow down your choice amongst the 13 different Whirlpool side by side models. Use the following 7 points as your guide.

1. Budget

They range in price from around £725; for the Whirlpool 20RI-D1L model to £1700 for top of the range Whirlpool 20RI D4 ESPRESSO. With around a £1000 difference, this is clearly an important first consideration. Keep in mind that even the cheapest model has significant benefits over a conventional fridge/freezer, such as size and special features.

2. Size

Here we are talking about the external dimensions of the fridge-freezer. Since side by side fridge freezers are much larger than conventional ones, it is critical to pay attention to width, height and depth. Firstly, due to its size the manufacturer recommends a house door opening of at least 62 cm. (the unit will then fit through with its doors removed). Secondly, not only does it have to fit in your kitchen, but it has to look right with the general design and layout of the kitchen.

Models such as the Whirlpool WSC5555 AN and the Whirlpool 25RID 4 are 177 cm. high, 91.1 cm. wide and 74.3 cm. deep. If you need one with the least depth, go for the Whirlpool 20 TBL 4 or Whirlpool 20 TML 4, which both have a depth of only 67.4cm.

As with all American style fridge freezers it is advised to leave an air space of 2 cm. all round the unit for it function optimally.

3. Storage Capacity

All the Whirlpools have at least a total net capacity of 500 litres. The models with second largest storage capacity are actually the cheapest ones, the Whirlpool 20 RID 1l and the Whirlpool 20 RBD 1l, with a capacities of 521 litres (325 litres for the fridge and 196 litres for the freezer). The reason for this is that they do not have a water and ice dispenser, leaving more space for food. Only the most expensive model, the Whirlpool 20RI D4 ESPRESSO has a capacity that surpasses them – 522 litres and it does have a water and ice dispenser.

4. Colour

There are plenty of models that are either black or stainless steel. In addition the Whirlpool 20RI D4 ESPRESSO is in satina mist, the Whirlpool 20TM L4 comes with a mirror finish and the Whirlpool 20SI L4 is with a brushed stainless steel look.

5. Energy Efficiency

Everybody is much more energy conscious these days for the sake of the environment and one’s pocket and with these rather large appliances it is especially important. The good news is, all the models have either an A + or an A rating. In fact with an A+ energy efficiency, you may well be saving energy by having a combined fridge/freezer, instead of running two separate units.

6. Water and Ice Dispenser

Apart from the Whirlpool 20 RID 1L and the 20RBD 1l, all come with a water and ice dispenser. With the exception of the Whirlpool 20RI D3L and the 20RB D3L all the dispensers are in-door which allows for greater storage within the freezer.

7. Extra Features

Here is where the Whirlpool American style fridge freezers come into their own. I will list a few for you but there are many more.

  • 6th Sense Technology: adapts quickly to changes in temperatures (all models).
  • Anti bacterial filter with Microban: keeps the unit free of bacteria and mildew (all models).
  • Blackout Alert Alarm: after a power-cut, if the unit detects that the freezer temperature has risen above freezing, it will sound an alarm.(all models)
  • Makes Espresso Coffee: I am not joking, the Whirlpool 20RI D4 ESPRESSO, as its name implies, will even make you a cup of coffee.

So that concludes my 7 point guide for buying a Whirlpool side by side fridge freezer. By now you should have a good idea what to look for to find the ideal unit for you and your family.

Good Luck!
