Her Most Famous Installation (Dawn’s Wedding Feast) – Louise Nevelson

[ad_1]

American artist Louise Berliawsky Nevelson (1899-1988), better known as Louise Nevelson, was an iconic figure in the postwar art scene and invented, what came to be known as ‘Installation Art.’ Nevelson was equally recognized for her luxurious lifestyle and flamboyant personality, which was a contrast to the underlying style of her works in wood and monochromes. Starting with smaller designs, Louise graduated to room size works with “Dawn’s Wedding Feast,” which is also known as one of her two masterworks.

Louise’s “Dawn’s Wedding Feast” was created in 1959 for the high-profile exhibition ‘Sixteen Americans’ at the Museum of Modern Art, New York, as a wood assemblage in all-white paint. It was a very prolific installation with four chapels, bride, groom, wedding cake, mirror, chest, pillow and various, stationed & hanging columns (symbolic of guests). It was this enormity, due to which, not enough buyers could be attracted for the complete structure, and Nevelson had to break it down into sixteen stand-alone sculptures. The theme of this assemblage centers on the transitions that accompany nuptial ties. It carries the essence of expectancy, bright prospects, and the promises of a marital life, through its depiction in white, a color traditionally associated with Christian matrimonial ceremony.

The use of white color here also marks ‘dawn,’ the hour of the day when this ‘feast’ is being held, another sign of a new beginning. Some sections believe that this exhibit was an allegory to her personal life, which was bound within two extremes, a failed marriage and an undeterred commitment to art. “Dawn’s Wedding Feast” was entirely made up of the discarded wood pieces of different shapes, carefully crafted to create symmetrical pieces, coated with white spray paint. This assortment is predominantly a ‘Symbolic’ work with ‘Abstract’ individual structures. Two tall columns with disc installations titled ‘Bride and Disk’ and ‘Groom and Disk,’ represent bride and groom, respectively. The large pieces had dominant central presence when compared to the rest of the structure. Of all the four chapels, “Dawn’s Wedding Chapel IV” is noteworthy on the account of its complex form and eye-catching central wheel design with four spikes. ‘Case with Five Balusters,’ a solitary piece of the “Dawn’s Wedding Feast,” is basically, a collection of geometrical pieces, with five wooden balusters, taken from the scrap of some staircase.

On the account of its unorthodox, yet superior execution, “Dawn’s Wedding Feast” earned the much deserved reputation as one of the crowning glory of ‘Modern Installation Art,’ giving high impetus to Nevelson’s artistic career.

Advantages of Steel Detailing Drawing and Shop Drawing Structure

[ad_1]

In construction industry steel detailing services plays an important role, with the help of steel detailing drawing you can create accurate building structure. Detail drawings of any building construction represent the members of each assembly and contain step by step instructions on how to fabricate each and every piece.

Steel detailing drawing requires skills in drafting, logic, reasoning, spatial visualization, and communication. A basic knowledge of general engineering principles and the methods of structural and steel fabrication are essential to the practice of this discipline. A computer-aided detailer also requires skills in using computers and an understanding of the specific CAD software he has to use.

Detailed structure shop drawing is the involvement of experienced engineers, architects and general contractor. A good steel detailer will work closely with a wide range of professionals so they can work to provide its customers a superior product. Shop drawing structure is also a necessary thing. It is not possible for us to construct buildings without them, but these drawings are very confusing, and it requires a special staff for the shop-drawing services within the time limit.

The structural detailer should also have knowledge of wind and gravity loads and material stresses. He must be familiar with different type of steel and other materials, architectural details of construction and be able to produce various types of beam-beam or column-column connections. Shop drawing structure is very useful in a whole range of manufacturing and construction businesses like plants, building construction, shipbuilding and naval and marine, and other similar industries.

The shop drawing structure must also be checked for accuracy and completeness by another detailer. During checking comments arising from approval and corrections must be resolved, and the original drawing must be updated accordingly. After this, the drawing may be released for use in construction.

Why Should You Consider Eco Friendly Damage Cleaning Services?

[ad_1]

Dealing with damages to your home or business can be devastating, but with the help of restoration services, there are solutions that make sense and that can help you to stay ahead of problems that would otherwise come up. Restoration services clean up the issue and make sure that your home or business is able to be used again.

Nowadays, there are a number of companies out there that take care of restoration services a little differently than their competitors. Eco-friendly damage cleaning services are becoming more popular. But, why should you consider them over other options? Here are some of the ways they help the environment.

Lowers Air Pollution

Air pollution is a big issue, and there are a number of things that can come from the inside of homes that end up hurting the air around us. Restoration services will often help with air quality concerns and ensure that the practices that they adhere to are not going to damage the environment in the meantime. Also, the products they use don’t have volatile organic compounds (VOC), which are bad for indoor and outdoor air quality.

Just as Effective as Typical Restoration Services

Not all damage restoration services have the same amount of effectiveness, but eco-friendly options go the extra mile in order to make sure that they are going to be effective, period. They do their best to use the best techniques and products so that your home doesn’t have issues with damage or mold after all is said and done. Sometimes, they’re even more effective than those other services, because they don’t use any foreign chemicals, which can cause their own issues (which we’ll explore a little bit more in the next points).

Fewer Health Risks

Everyone wants to feel confident when they come back to their home after a disaster, and eco friendly damage cleaning services can help your family to stay as healthy as possible. As previously mentioned, the products they use will have fewer VOCs, and you don’t have to worry about anyone feeling ill after you get back into your home because of the products used.

Safer for Pets

If you hire damage restoration services, you want to be sure that they’re safe for every member of your family – and not just the human ones. Eco-friendly options use pet-friendly (and generally, animal friendly) options for the cleaning supplies that they use. So, you don’t have to worry about your dog or cat hanging out on the couch that they restored, or laying on the carpet after everything is treated.

As you look at your options, you want to be sure that you research and see what there is for you to accomplish. When all is said and done, you are sure to find solutions and ensure that you’ve got what you need in order to restore your home or business, and an eco-friendly solution can help you to play a role in saving our world as well.

Measuring Training Programs: Cost Vs Benefit

[ad_1]

For decades companies have been struggling with the real costs,

benefits and return-on-investment of training costs. With

increasing online learning opportunities, organizations are finding their focus shifting from providing costly onsite training programs to the use of new tools and technology now available. Companies need to understand and apply the business analytics in order to fully appreciate the effectiveness and impact that e-learning and training offers.

Companies invest large amounts of money, resources and time in

training. According to a 2002 ASTD State of the Industry Report

where over 375 major corporations were surveyed, companies spent

between one (1) and three (3) percent of their total payroll on

training. This translated to a per-person basis of more than

US $700 per employee per year. In cutting-edge companies that

significantly increases to US $1400 or more per person per year.

If training expenses are viewed as a percentage of the company’s

profits, then the training budget could represent as much as

5 – 20% of the total profit margin. With increasing costs

associated with travel and lodging, as well as increasing costs

and expenses to register and attend meetings or to develop in-house training programs, training budget costs are undboutedly going to increase, which only underscores the need to justify its cost.

In order to effectively measure training programs, companies

are faced with three critical issues: efficiency, effectiveness, and compliance. Every major decision made regarding training falls into one of these three areas. Fortunately, each of these three areas can be benchmarked and measured.

The ASTD 2002 study reported that only one-third of companies

measured the effectiveness of learning and that 12% or less attempted to measure job and business impact of their training programs. Why? Interestingly enough the top reason why companies fail to measure training is that they lack the experience, tools and infrastructure to do so.

It is impossible to improve or effectively optimize the training

program if it is not benchmarked or measured. Training should be measured and evaluated just as companies measure productivity, profit or quality. There have been many scorecards, dashboards, algorithms or metrics developed for this purpose.

If one considers the total training investment per person in the

company (see above), the question is how much should they spend

on measurement and evaluation? One, five or ten percent? Looking back at the ASTD 2002 study of best practices, we find that most companies spend 40-50% of their total training dollars on content development, 8-10% on infrastructure and the remaining resources on salaries and facilities costs.

For many development of measurement and evaluation tools sounds like additional costs and expense to the organization. Companies who allocate a small, but fixed percentage of the training budget to this purpose will find themselves able to effectively measure the effectiveness for their overall investment in training. One study found that organizations who adopt this model, and who spend US $2-10 per employee on learning analytics reported noticeable improvements in the measurability and return on investment.

Companies will need to justify the costs associated with measuring learning by identifying the business impact and risk of not training its employees. This could be quantified by fines, or profit loss as a result of being out of compliance with laws or standards. Often times this can result in fines levied against the company or even lawsuits or other forms of profit loss.

In healthcare, for example, lack of compliance with correctly

collecting, coding and reporting cancer incidence could have far-reaching impact on budget dollars spent not only in the training and operational costs associated with the Cancer Registry department, but could also negate the costs associated with cancer program development and community outreach programs. Although program development and outreach programs have the ability to compete with the consumer’s dollars, all this could be for naught if the required reporting is not done accurately and in compliance with the State or accreditation program standards. Training programs for the Cancer Registry can ensure that the data management processes are appropriately managed.

So, in summary, companies should be focusing on the development

and measurement of their learning programs. The investment in

learning analytics will outweigh the risks of inadequate training. Success for any organization will directly depend on their employee’s understanding of their products, services, operations and policies. Employees must be thoroughly trained in compliance, standards, confidentiality, non-disclosure and other legally sensitive areas of the company. And, companies must be able to track and measure this using effective learning analytics.

Dun Laoghaire and Killarney – Super Travel Destinations In Ireland

[ad_1]

Scenic and peaceful – these are just two of the many ways that you can describe Ireland. Being the twentieth largest island in the world and the third largest in Europe, Ireland has much to offer you especially when it comes to indulging the senses. When your primary objective is to either visit the isle for pleasure or business or a mixture of both, the best thing for you to do is to plan your visit. Many have said that Ireland is never easily forgotten and once you go there you surely will want to return as soon as you possibly can.

The isle has a lot to offer, as many know, and if you are one who is into the beach fronts, then Dun Laoghaire is for you. Taking its name from King Laoire, who built a stone fort in the center of the town around 480 A.D, Dun Laoghaire, is a town with a past that centered on caring for others. The stone fort, which later became a harbour to cater to the ships who sought refuge from the ferocious Irish Sea, is the center of the town’s happenings and activities. With the Harbor, various water sports and events are sure to come your way. The town does not just offers water sports, but also offers other recreational activities such as dances, strolling through the hills, camping, fishing, horse back riding, biking, or just plainly relaxing. Chances are you will need to come back soon so that you can experience all the activities available.

If you get off a plane in Dublin, which is around 16 miles from Dun Laoghaire, you can use a bus, or a coach, to the town. Another way is by boat. In this, there are two choices: Stena Line or by Irish ferries. If you go by train, get on the Dart, which runs every 5 or 20 minutes, from Dublin. Buses and private vehicles are other alternatives. Just use the N11 road since it is the closest National road from Dublin to the town. When you get to the town that is when the fun and adventure begins.

When you are done with the sights and sounds of the town, you can head southwest to Kerry County where you will find the picturesque town of Killarney. To get there, you can take a plane from Waterford, get off at Kerry Airport and within 15 minutes be in Killarney by road. Sea ferries and railways are other available transportation to the town.

Killarney gets its name from the Gaelic ‘Cill Aime’ which means ‘Church of the Sloes”. There is plenty to do in the town and this range from music and art festivals to cycling, sightseeing and spa treatments. You can find great accommodations here and they also have equally great dining and shopping facilities. There is always something for everyone. Killarney is another one of those Irish towns you will surely want to visit over and over again for its hospitality and sites.

How UK SME’s Can Use Brexit As an Opportunity to Grow Their European Business

[ad_1]

For the 48% of us that voted to remain inside the European Union, the referendum result came initially as an unwelcome shock to most of those who are in the business of doing business. But as Napoleon Hill once pointed out, every adversity, every failure, every heartache carries with it the seed of an equal or greater benefit.

Agile and forward thinking UK SME’s can mitigate the risks associated with leaving the EU by structuring their affairs in such a way that they do not actually leave it at all.

Creating an EU subsidiary will not only allow them to capitalise on the opportunities afforded by continuing to freely trade with the remaining 27 member states within the world’s largest trading bloc, but also it will give them a distinct advantage over their UK competitors who don’t seize the initiative and simply retreat behind the drawbridge and wait to see what happens next. Procrastination is not only the thief of time, it also does a pretty good job of ensuring that business is not as brisk as it should be.

Consequently, the post-Brexit period of widespread uncertainty in which we now find ourselves in is the perfect time for UK companies to secure their future by opening a branch office in Europe’s powerhouse economy, Germany.

Not only will so doing ensure that they can continue to trade and to provide services throughout the entire European Union but also it will alleviate any fears that customers or suppliers might have by demonstrating that they are fully committed to the European project, despite the Brexit outcome and all the uncertainties associated with it.

Securing a foothold in Europe’s key market, therefore, offers enormous advantages to SME’s already trading with Germany, but also to companies that have been considering establishing a presence in Europe anyway.

Only an hour or so flight from most UK airports, Germany has a business friendly tax and legal system and its central location within Europe makes it the natural choice for British companies looking to establish a subsidiary or branch office on the continental mainland.

The most common legal form is to establish a GmbH (Gesellschaft mit beschränkter Haftung) which is German for “company with limited liability” – The name of the GmbH form emphasizes the fact that the owners (Gesellschafter, also known as members) of the entity are not personally liable for the company’s debts.

It is widely accepted that a GmbH is formed in three stages: the founding association, which is regarded as a private partnership with full liability of the founding partners/members; the founded company (often styled as “GmbH I.G.”, with “I.G.” standing for in Gründung – literally “in the founding stages”, with the meaning of “registration pending”); and finally the fully registered GmbH. Only the registration of the company in the Commercial Register (Handelsregister) provides the GmbH with its full legal status.

Under German law, the GmbH must have a minimum founding capital, from which €12,500 have to be raised before registering in the commercial register. The company is run only by the managing directors (Geschäftsführer) who have an unrestricted proxy for the company and must be either a national of a European Union country or have a German work permit. Shareholders, on the other hand, can be any UK entity, be it a person or a UK Limited company.

Other factors to bear in mind when establishing a presence in Germany includes securing a business address, launching a German language website – local law dictates this must include an ‘impressum’ which outlines company details, appointing a good tax consultant, and hiring at least one German speaking representative that can help during the formation period and possibly beyond.

Unlike in the UK, joining the local chambers of commerce is mandatory. However, doing so will allow members grow their business contacts. Social network XING is their LinkedIn, which is another useful way to engage with prospective customers or partners.

Brexit came as a shock to most Germans. Many are Anglophiles at heart and would welcome the opportunity to continue working with British companies that elected not to leave the European Union after all.

A Look At The Advantages Of Using Cable Trays

[ad_1]

The use and installation of cable trays is compared with most systems for managing the wires effectively and no doubt the tray have won the race so many times. The wiring system has significantly numerous benefits over the conduit systems and raceways, which makes it first choice for every complex system. It is cost effective and reliable to maintain the wires and cables throughout their life. In addition to this, the convenient design has contributed to the potential safety advantages in contrast of various other systems.

What Are The Significant Benefits Of Installing Cable Trays For Your Industry?

  • Installation Cost Savings: The product design and engineering is considered to reduce the installation labor cost and drive better results through examining all the aspects well. This eliminates the need for spray paint, tape in the field or powder coating to deliver the cost saving benefits to different number of applications
  • Ease Of Maintenance: After installation, most users are concentrated on the maintenance of the installation. It is also easy to maintain the new cables or exit the unused ones with the visual inspection of the wires. This saves the time and also saves the cost spent on labor. Another comparative benefit of installing the trays is they are less susceptible to the fire loss.
  • Flexibility Features: If you are planning to change the wire managing system or simply looking for the reliable system, give the trays a try-and you will surely love the system for its flexibility and ease of usage. You are no more limited to check for the space while adding the wires and also you can add more trays easily without spending a lot on the system.
  • Safety Benefits: As the conduit system is a closed system, there are chances of excessive heat buildup, which evolve harmful gases causing failure or damage to the wires stored inside. This is why users prefer the open structure none other than cable trays. The open structure avoids the buildup of heat and let the wires breathe easily inside the system. This prevents catastrophic events, lessens the chances of fires, and sparks.
  • Adaptability: Another advantage of installing the system is its reliability and ease of adapting with all types of environmental conditions. This results in less down time and more productivity, which adds in introducing innovative technologies and new processes. Installing and adding new trays is also easy as you are using the most flexible wiring system ever. It is useful to consider future expansion, redesigning the structure, and new technologies without disrupting the system as well as spending much on the entire system.

Registry Cleaners in 2018

[ad_1]

The “registry cleaner” market was massive in 2010/2011, with many people looking for simple ways to resolve core computing problems (particularly with the newly released Windows 7).

With the introduction of Windows 10, and the ensuing updates to both the core and wider system level settings, the market dissipated for the registry repair tools – replaced *either* with demand for a more deeper “system optimization” tool, or consolidating to the most effective tool (which turned out to be CCleaner).

We’ve been in the PC market long enough to know that the majority of promoted “registry cleaner” tools are nothing more than vaporware. However, their premise (an automated cleaning solution for Windows) is still valid – and is why it’s important to consider your various options if you’re in the business of keeping your computer system running as smoothly as possible.

What *Are* Registry Cleaners?

The crux of “registry cleaner” tools has been to “clean” the “registry” database of Windows. This database basically exists to store all the “settings” that your system may have inside – with everything from your background wallpaper to your login information stored inside.

Whilst the registry works well, it can often become bloated, damaged or infected with viruses – leading to a varying number of problems with Windows systems. The idea behind “registry cleaners” was that you’d be able to repair these various problems by using an automated tool to “fix” errors inside the registry.

The problem with this was that many of the tools were either unable to “fix” the errors that people had on their systems, or were downright dangerous (deleting incorrect settings etc). This is why many people became weary of the various registry cleaner tools – they ended up becoming extremely ineffectual, bordering on “scams”. Popularity for a number of products – including the likes of “RegCure” imploded.

Do They Work & Which Tools Are Best?

Ultimately, like many automated tools, “registry cleaners” do have the capacity to work to some degree.

The key is understanding that these tools should form part of a wider strategy for keeping digital systems running as smoothly as possible. To do this, you need to appreciate the following:

  • Remove file-based system errors
  • Fix filepath reference issues
  • Clean up temporary files (both for the OS and other software)
  • Fix relative issues within Windows (user settings etc)

The best “registry cleaner” tools are not only those which perform the above as effectively as possible, but also ensure that whenever you’re scanning through your system, you’re able to keep track of all the resource usage that your system may have.

This not only ensures that you’ll be able to get the most out of the tool, but that you’ll also to effectively gauge the quality of service it provides.

Registry Cleaners 2018

To summarize the “registry cleaner” market for 2018, the following are the only real players in the market right now:

  • ioBit Advanced System Care
A popular tool, backed by 24/7 support – it’s one of the longest standing “registry cleaner” applications to have been released. It’s able to fix a large number of “scanning items”, through which it’s able to remove any of the potential problems that Windows computers may have. Unfortunately, has a long standing issue with being considered “bloatware”. Often over-inflates purported results, leading to potential conflicts with the underlying OS (Windows).

  • CCleaner Cloud
This is by far the most popular “registry cleaner” tool – the “cloud” edition simply adds the ability to track & manage various systems through a central “web” interface. Despite the added functionality, the core issue with CCleaner still remains; which is that it basically doesn’t have a very powerful core engine. In other words, it doesn’t find many errors.

  • FLCleaner 3.0
Based on the “Frontline Registry Cleaner 2.0” system (both of which having been published as “open source”), this is new type of system labelled a “stack manager”. The point of FLCleaner 3.0 is to basically take what CCleaner Cloud did very well (tracking of systems), and tie it to the software that a computer might be using. Specifically, rather than determining system based errors, this tool can identify and resolve platform centric ones. The benefit of this is that it works across all modern devices (Windows/Linux/Mac/Android/iOS etc) to provide overview of the entire digital infrastructure you may be running. Also backed by 24/7 support.

  • Uniblue Registry Cleaner Kit
Uniblue have been a big player in the PC software business for many years. Their popular products – DriverBooster and RegistryMechanic – were extremely popular. Unfortunately, the market has lead to somewhat of an exodus of buyers from this company – leading to their consolidation of a number of products. One of the main ones is the “Registry Cleaner Kit” – into which they put their “registry” engineering prowess. This tool is somewhat effective at cleaning up typical Windows errors.

  • Iolo System Mechanic
Finally, this is an “all in one” tool for optimizing Windows based systems. It works by providing you with access to 100’s of “settings” / options which can be managed from within the application itself. A highly effective tool by any standard.

The way to ensure you are using the most effective tool is to consider whether you’re using for home or business. If you’re going to be using for business, you need to ensure that you have a system which is both effective and secure.

The Function of Fats in Our Life

[ad_1]

Fats along with proteins and carbohydrates, are one of the three nutrients used as energy sources by the body. The energy produced by fats is 9 calories per gram. Proteins and carbohydrates each provide 4 calories per gram. Total fat; the sum of saturated, monounsaturated and polyunsaturated fats. Intake of monounsaturated and polyunsaturated fats can help reduce blood cholesterol when substituted for saturated fats in the diet. A slang term for obese or adipose. In chemistry, a compound formed from chemicals called fatty acids. These fats are greasy, solid materials found in animal tissues and Fats are the major component of the flabby material of a body, commonly known as blubber.

As strange as it sounds, eating fat can actually help you lose weight. Not only that, your memory and your immune system will benefit from eating fat. It is an extremely bad idea to eliminate fat completely from your diet. “Good” fats are absolutely essential. These good fats come from things like Enova Oil, canola oil, extra virgin olive oil, flax seed, almonds, walnuts and cold-water fish. Eating the right kind of fat and getting rid of the wrong kind is what is needed.

Key Functions of Fat

We need some fat – it makes up part of our brains, it protects some of our joints and it provides reserves for when we’re sick – but it slips down so effortlessly, it’s easy to overindulge.

  • Fat provides needed energy.  It is difficult to eat the large amounts of food in a very low fat diet to get all the energy you need.
  • Fat is needed so your body can absorb the fat soluble vitamins A, S, E, K, and prevent deficiencies of these vitamins.
  • Provides back-up energy if blood sugar supplies run out (after 4-6 hours without food).
  • Provides insulation under the skin from the cold and the heat.
  • Protects organs and bones from shock and provides support for organs.
  • Fat surrounds and insulates nerve fibers to help transmit nerve impulses.
  • Fat is part of every cell membrane in the body.  It helps transport nutrients and metabolites across cell membranes.
  • Your body uses fat to make a variety of other building blocks needed for everything from hormones to immune function.

What happens if we don’t have enough fat?

  • Dry, scaly skin
  • Hair loss
  • Low body weight
  • Cold intolerance
  • Bruising
  • Poor growth
  • Lower resistance to infection
  • Poor wound healing
  • Loss of menstruation

Food Sources of Fat

High intakes of fat contribute to becoming overweight; being overweight increases the chance of developing a number of diseases such as diabetes, heart disease and high blood pressure.

Not only do we need to restrict the amount of fat, but we also need to consider what type of fat is restricted, as different types of fat have different effects on blood cholesterol levels and heart health.

Food contains a mixture of three types of fat; polyunsaturated, monounsaturated and saturated fats.  One type of fat usually dominates in a food for example, butter is mainly saturated fat and olive oil is mainly monounsaturated.  All fats contain approximately the same amount of kilojoules or energy and if eaten in large amounts will lead weight gain.

  • Polyunsaturated Fats – lowers blood cholesterol and encourages heart health – Good food sources are; Vegetable oils such as safflower, soy bean, sunflower, corn, Wheat germ, wholegrain cereals and breads, Polyunsaturated margarines, Fish oils, naturally present in fish, Seeds and most nuts.
  • Omega-3 fats are a type of polyunsaturated fat found mainly in oily fish (eg salmon, mackerel, sardines, herrings), canola oil, flaxseed oil (linseed oil) and walnut oil. These fats help to reduce blood clotting, blood pressure and blood fat levels.
  • Monounsaturated Fats – do not raise blood cholesterol and encourages heart health – Good food source are; Avocados, peanuts, peanut oil and peanut butter, Olive oil, olives and olive oil-based margarines, Canola oil and monounsaturated table spread, Almond and hazelnuts.
  • Saturated Fats – raise blood cholesterol and promote heart disease – These are the ones to reduce or avoid Major food sources are; Dairy fats such as butter, clarified butter, cultured butter, butter/margarine mix, Milk homogenised or full cream, Hard cheeses, cream cheese, sour cream, ice cream and cream, Meat fats such as lard, dripping, suet, beef tallow and chefade, White visible fat on beef, mutton, lamb, pork, poultry, Processed meat, e.g. luncheon, salami, most sausages, tinned corned beef, fatty mince pies and pates, Tropical oils such as coconut, coconut cream, palm oil and kremelta.
  • Trans Fats are the other type of fat that can raise your cholesterol level just like saturated fats – Trans fats can be formed when vegetable fats are processed in certain ways.  Some polyunsaturated fats are converted to trans fats when vegetable oils are chemically harden to make it spreadable such as margarine.  This process is called ‘hydrogenation’. These fats may be found listed in the food ingredients on packaged foods as vegetable fat, baking margarine and vegetable shortening.  Foods containing this fat include pastries, biscuits, crackers, muesli bars, commercial cakes and muffins.

Daily Usage of Fats

We all need some fat in our diets. In fact, it’s virtually impossible to have a fat-free diet as most foods, even fruit and veg, provide small amounts of fat. As well as providing the body with a concentrated source of energy, certain components of fat are essential parts of our body cells and are needed to make hormones. Fat also helps to insulate our body and small amounts around the major organs have a protective effect. Several vitamins (vitamins A, D, E and K) are also fat-soluble and tend to be found in foods with a high fat content. Very low fat intakes mean that intakes of these vitamins, in turn, are often extremely low, too.

The Department of Health recommends that no more than a third of calories come from this nutrient, while most weight loss plans rarely recommend less than 20% of calories come from fat.

Nutritional Safety

Some people do not do well if their diet is too high in fat, regardless of what type. They will develop a slow metabolism, constipation, lethargy, and skewed cholesterol levels if they eat too much fat. These people do best with a diet rich in fruits, vegetables, and whole grain foods.

Very few fats are bad in and of themselves. Trans fat is an oil that has been chemically manipulated to be more solid. It has been found to be particularly harmful to the arteries and is not recommended at any level in the diet. The lower the better on this one!

Usually it is the proportion of fat that is the problem. Recently it has been found that a diet with too much omega-6 fat and not enough omega-3 fat leads to inflammation and suppression of the immune system. So balancing these fats is very important.

Too much fat in your diet puts you at risk for Obesity,Coronary Artery Disease ,High Cholesterol, Myocardial Infarction and Hypertension.

My next article entitled “The Function of Vitamin A in our Life” will examine the role of Vitamin A in good nutrition.

See you on the Beaches of the World,
