There are different types of hipot testing. An insulation resistance test is used for cables to show the resistance of cable insulation. This test uses steady DC current. It is more accurate and safer to use DC current for such a test than to use AC current. In addition, DC testing equipment is more portable and much less expensive than AC testing equipment.

There are two specific situations when cable hipot tests are administered. One is to test new installations, and the other is to test existing systems.

Special consideration is required when testing older electrical systems. Excess current may damage the aging insulation of certain types of cables. This type of testing is not recommended by the electrical industry for cross-linked polyethelene (XLP) or ethylene propylene rubber (EPR) cables that have been in use for more than five years. However, paper insulated lead covered (PILC) cables with over five years of service may be tested with DC testing units.

By sending excess voltage through electrical cables, it is possible to find potential problems that would not appear during normal operation with standard current levels. The cable hipot test is an invaluable way to give electrical professionals a clear view of the quality and safety of their installations.

We need to eat food to get nutrition and energy, not as the primary way to relax. We can easily change our daily habits into new habits that will help us to relax easily without food, feel good and achieve the weight loss we are striving for. It normally takes approximately 21 days for a new habit to take place. That may sound like a long time – but it’s not. Just think about it – three weeks to a new you. Someone that can now lose weight fast and relax without food.

Don’t confuse “eating to relax” with “emotional eating”. They are two completely different issues. Many people suffer from emotional eating. They eat from different emotions such as fear, nervousness, being upset, having an argument, or just anxious about something. What I am referring to is people eating for no other reason but relaxation. Many people use the excuses such as, “I’ve been working all day, I just want to relax”, or “I’m done for the day, I’m going to sit and read or watch TV and relax”. Sound familiar? It sure doe’s to me!

So now that we recognize our problem with eating to relax, we need to learn how to change “eating to relax” to “relaxing without eating”. We can do this easily. And this is how:

1. We simply make dinner our last eating time. Now I know this can be hard. Especially if dinner time is late afternoon or early evening. The later evening is when we need to settle down for the day and to have the low calorie snacks, such as raw vegetables, without the dressing, or popcorn without the butter.

2. We need to make it a rule not to eat in front of the TV. All meals, and snacks should be eaten in a designated eating area such as the dining room, nook, or kitchen counter top. Also sit down when you eat and appreciate what you have and how good it tastes when you eat it slowly. You will feel full faster when you eat slower. No more unnecessary eating in front of the TV or computer for extended times – we can tend to eat much more this way. Instead, sip on a large glass of water, or even a decaf coffee.

3. Talk a walk for at least a half an hour. Carry a large water bottle with you and sip on it slowly. You don’t need to walk fast. Just walk slowly and enjoy the scenery around you. Walking is very relaxing.

4. Chew gum – this can help trick the brain into thinking you are chewing food.

5. Find an interesting activity to keep your mind busy. Many times we feel “we need to be doing something” to help us relax. This may sound silly for adults – but think of the things you used to do when you were a kid. Paint-by-numbers, crossword puzzles, word search books, putting puzzles together, coloring, writing stories, etc. If you are really “into it”, your mind will be busy thinking about what you are doing, not being bored and tempted to eat.

6. Surf the internet. You will be amazed at how much information, on any topic you are interested in, is available to you. But, this is not the time to be eating. Make it a rule not to eat at your computer.

7. Spend time with your family or friends and show them how you don’t need to keep eating all the time.

Take it step by step and you will see your progress each day. Be satisfied with your progress and don’t be hard on yourself if you slip up. It’s okay. Just get back on course and always focus on relaxing without eating. Remember if you feel stuffed after eating a lot of high carb foods, you are going into fat storing mode. You don’t want to over eat and feel stuffed, you want to focus on being full, satisfied and feeling good; versus feeling tired and stuffed.

Natural relaxation is extremely important for our health. We need to relax and give our body a break so it can naturally repair itself. But remember, you are not helping your body if you are eating for no other reason but to relax. Meat is a highly perishable food item, so extra care and special attention are needed to make sure that you keep meat fresh so that it will remain a high quality, wholesome product. Spoilage and unwholesomeness of meat are caused by bacteria and other microorganisms. There are two different groups of bacteria that affect refrigerated meat. Pathogenic bacteria make us sick, whilst spoilage bacteria make our food go bad and make our refrigerators smell. By smell, sight and taste, you cannot identify whether meat contains pathogenic bacteria, unlike meat contaminated with spoilage bacteria.

In a refrigerated state, spoilage bacteria thrives. The fact that all food in a refrigerator eventually spoils proves this. Spoiled food doesn’t make you sick, it might taste bad but unless it contains pathogenic bacteria, your digestive system will be fine. Unrefrigerated meat, if left out on the counter for a few hours, might smell and look okay, but may be loaded with pathogenic bacteria. This contamination usually happens during cutting and processing. These bacteria require certain conditions to grow; a very low acidity level (near neutral pH) within the meat; a supply of water or other moisture, for example meat juices, or a warm temperature, usually somewhere between 45° and 127°F.

There are five basic meat types, each one requiring special storage techniques. They are cooked, frozen, fresh, cured and canned meat.

Cooked meats should be used within a week of preparation, or properly frozen and wrapped for use later. Meat can be kept for longer periods of time if it is frozen at -10°F or below. After it is frozen, maintain the temperature at 0°F or lower. Most side-by-side and chest-type freezers can maintain this temperature while most ice compartments in refrigerators cannot, so it is not recommended to store meat in this compartment.

Try to limit freezer storage time on all meats to maintain their quality and freshness. Freezing meat won’t improve the quality, but it will retain its natural color, texture, nutritional value and flavor.

Refrigerate fresh meats at temperatures of 38° to 40°F for as long as possible.

Fresh meat should be stored in the coldest part of the refrigerator, this in usually towards the back, away from the door. If it is to be used within two days, leave the meat in its original wrapping. If it is to be stored longer, rewrap the meat in freezer wrap and freeze.

Cured, smoked, and ready-to-eat meats include bacon, ham, sausage products and smoked pork. The heat, processing and smoking of these items inactivates most enzymes and bacteria. These products should remain in their original wrapping to prevent any further contamination. After opening, most cured meat will stay fresh for approximately a week in the refrigerator and should be stored in airtight containers to prevent odors in the fridge. Luncheon meats should not be frozen.

There are two varieties of canned meat, some require refrigeration, like hams, and some don’t, like corned beef, chili con carne and dried meats.

The process of freeze-drying added a new life to food storage and made the processing easy to handle. Incidentally, the process of freeze-drying was known to the ancient Peruvian Incas of the Andes. They used to store their potatoes and some other foods in the mountains above Machu Picchu. The food used to get frozen due to cold mountain temperatures, and the water slowly vaporized due to the low air pressure at high altitudes. The simple idea of this process is to remove water content from frozen food. It also led to the production of powdered food products since then. Technically, the process of freeze-drying is referred to as Lyophilization and works on the idea of removal of water from dissolved or dispersed frozen solids. But let us see how it actually works?

How it Works?

As you know freeze-drying is meant for the preservation of food, but it can also be used to purify different materials. Wherever this process is conducted, it will have these four steps

1. Freezing: The food has to be frozen first to a very low temperature. This provides the appropriate conditions for the proper drying of food.

2. Vacuum: Once the food is frozen, the food is placed under vacuum. This way the water from the food vaporizes from its solid state without going through the liquid phase. This process in which water skips a phase is known as sublimation.

3. Heat: In order to speed up the process, heat is applied. Applying heat along with vacuum basically speeds up sublimation.

4. Condensation: Finally, the low temperature condenser plates eliminate the vaporized solvent from vacuum chamber by converting it back to solid. This completes the separation process. However, the final step can be avoided if the simple drying rather than separation is needed.

With freeze-drying, the moisture content of the food product is controlled. This means you do not have to cook or refrigerate it, but still it will be preserved in its natural flavor and color with this process. Preservation of food was just one merit, but this process also solves the problem of space food systems by providing them a staple diet during the travel. A lot of flights to the orbit these days last many days and even weeks. The freeze-dried food will be easy to handle, and provides sustenance to the astronauts during their journey.
