Calculating Shelf Productivity

[ad_1]

Knowing how much profit each of the shelves in your store produce, is of as much importance for any retail store as product placement in the store would be. Knowing what the productivity of an individual shelf is, under certain conditions will not only help you increase profits, but also help you to improve product selection and placement in your store. The idea is that you want to get as much profit as possible from every shelf in your store. And I mean shelf space in the broadest sense of the term.

Step 1: Decide on a unit of measure

One of the first things you have to do is decide on a unit of measure. Realize that in order to compare one particular space to another, they need to be the same unit of measure. E.g. If you use 1 foot of shelf space you need to apply that to every part of the store that you wish to calculate. Comparing proverbial “apples with apples” is key for this to work.

Step 2: Number your shelves for tracking

Once you have decided on a unit of measure that works for you, number your shelf spaces (on paper at least) so you can identify specific locations and shelves. I would suggest you use a store map combined with a spreadsheet of sorts. Also realize that the larger an individual unit of measure is, the less accurate your profitability comparison will be. So using a smaller unit of measure will likely prove more valuable. E.g. use 1 foot rather than 2 feet.

Step 3: Allocate a product

Of course having spent some time on product placement at this point, you will already have products allocated to specific locations in your store. So it is a simple matter of connecting a product to a shelf location number.

Step 4: Calculate the dollar value profit per item

Though knowing percentages of margins may prove helpful, the true measure of productivity is actual dollars earned. So figure out the gross profit for a particular item (revenue – cost of sales = gross profit).

Step 5: Use the dollar value to calculate dollar value productivity

Simply multiply the number of units sold, of a particular product, with the dollar value gross profit. The most importance part for comparison is that you need to measure it over time. So use 1 week, 1 month, 6 months or whatever other time measure you wish to use. Apply this to every shelf in your store, and very soon you will identify your highest producing shelves and conversely also the lowest producing shelves. Connect it to seasons and you will soon see what produces when.

Step 6: Take your time, analyze and experiment.

The amount of information that can be gleaned about your store productivity from an analysis of this nature is immense and immeasurable. Especially over time. Realize however that this type of analysis takes time, especially in an environment that may have several cycles. So make sure that the time used for calculating your productivity matches your store and product types. Of course with this data you can calculate the precise seasons for a particular line, for example.

In conclusion having analysis of your store productivity will make you better at retail, and increase profits for sure. The only thing to remember is that you should do it regularly and be patient. Building a useful statistical database takes time, and some effort.

I wish you all the best with your ventures and invite you to share your stories and comments here.

Cheers!

Collinsonia Root for Varicose Veins

[ad_1]

If you or someone you know suffers from varicose veins listen up. I have discovered something that works.

Collinsonia root, otherwise known as stone root, is a not very well known natural remedy. But it is a great remedy, and I personally can attest to its healing properties. I have tried many things to help varicose veins, and I have found only two natural things that work: the raw food diet, and collinsonia root. In this article I will discuss the benefits of collinsonia root, and how it can help your varicose veins.

Collinsonia root is an diuretic, tonic, and vulnerary. A diuretic means it increases the secretion and expulsion of urine. A tonic means it strengthens or invigorates an organ, or the entire organism. A vulnerary is something that is a healing application for wounds, a topical application. This is what most books say collinsonia root does. But somewhere, in a little whole in the wall health food store called “Atlantis Rising”, a place that had a heated brick floor, and the employees were barefoot, and they played tripee music, and had all kinds of cool raw food books, herbs, and incense….they had the biggest herb book I have ever seen in my life. Twice the size of the largest Bible I have ever seen. I was, and am still a little jealous. But it was just sitting there on a table for everyone’s use.

In that book, I looked up the cure for varicose veins, this is a true story, and I found collinsonia root. I don’t remember the property that they gave it in that book, but I glommed onto it, found a Naturopathic college that sold it that was close by, and began taking it. I took 2 capsules, 3 times a day, and did not change my diet, which was a pretty standard American diet, add a little more veggies and fruit. After six weeks I would wake up itching! My varicose veins had been shrinking, and I believe the itching was a sign of further healing. My husband and I were shocked at the improvement that just this one herb did for my varicose veins. We had tried other things on me, but nothing got these kinds of results.

One word of warning. Don’t let anyone sell you the unground root. Buy it already ground, and put it in capsules yourself. The naturopathic college quit carrying the root because, well it’s not called stone root for nothing: it broke several of their grinders!

Do a search on collinsonia root to find a supplier. It is a pretty inexpensive cure for varicose veins.

Overcoming 4 Obstacles To a Positive Attitude

[ad_1]

There are four obstacles that stands in the way of a positive attitude. They are fear, worry, anger, and doubt. Whenever things don’t work out in the way we had anticipated, our immediate response is to become fearful.

We as people struggle with fear of loss. We are afraid that we will lose our money, or waste too much of our effort on something. We’re so fearful that we will forfeit our emotional and sometimes our physical investment in what we have done. The fear of loss. Personal development teaches us that we will get what think about the most, at this point we are now thinking about our potential losses  rather than putting our focus on our potential gains.

This is how fear operates. Fear will trigger worry to where we begin to use our imagination to create all sorts of negative pictures, causing much unhappiness which make us unable to perform effectively.

Fear and worry create anger. So instead of moving in a forward direction of our dreams, we respond, react and begin to play the blame game. We blame others as well as circumstances for our problems or challenges at hand.

All of these negative emotions now become fertile ground for doubt. In order to eliminate these negative obstacles and move to positive thinking, it is essential that the emotion of doubt is weaken.

How in the world does one do that, you may ask?

This may shock you, but the only antidote for the emotions of fear, worry, and doubt is to take positive actions toward the achievement of some worthwhile goal. We must focus our minds and concentrate on one thing at a time.

Successful people are always consciously choosing to think about what they want rather than the things they don’t want. This means successful people are repeatedly taking action towards achieving their goals, and not thinking or worrying about the obstacles that are sure to face them.

To ensure that you become successful at whatever it is you are striving for, you must first overcome the four negative obstacles of fear, worry, anger, and doubt that tend to stand in the way to maintaining a positive attitude. Concentrate on remembering pass successes, stay focus and keep that winning attitude.

Which Shape of Longboard Is The Most Popular?

[ad_1]

Longboarding has come a long way and in the beginning you did not have a lot to choose from. The selection was very limited. Nowadays you have many shapes and styles and each style has its own characteristics.

Choosing a board is not easy, so if you are a beginner and looking for a board, you find yourself in a choosing war. Which shape do I need? If you find yourself in this situation, it might help to know something about a special board: The pintail longboard. This board has a narrow tail and a small nose.

The pintail longboard is a board for everybody. Whether you are a beginner or advanced longboarder, surfer or snowboarder, old or young, you can always ride on it. It is an all around crowd pleaser.

They are wider in the front and it narrows in the back. They often twist when you have your weight in the front. The pintail shape gives your more leverage. Carving and cruising is great with this board. Pintail longboards tend to be the most popular around beginner longboarders since this shape is commonly available and they got a nice large foot platform. It is the most classic longboard out there and simple. They do not have the funky cut outs like a lot of other boards. A pintail longboard is shaped like this so the wheels do not though the board. The board doesn’t need cutouts or “wheel bites” like other boards have as the wheels are on the outside of the board.

The pintail can tackle all terrains from hills to boardwalks. They are awesome campus cruisers. You will never be late to your class.

From big to small you find them all. Pintail boards come in different sizes with a starting range of a small 33 inches and up to 50 inch and longer. The most common pintail size is between 39 and 42 inches. Longer boards will provide more stability with higher speed, in fact the longer the board the more stable you will feel, but they cannot turn as fast as a shorter board. On the other hand, shorter boards are easier to carry in your backpack. Which length you choose depends on your preference. Most pintails are made out of 7 to 9 plies of maple.

Did you know that the name ‘pintail’ also refers to a bird? The northern pintail is a duck that breeds in the northern areas for Europe, Asia and North America.

But we got side tracked…

A variety of tricks can be done on the pintail including the tigerclaw, cross step, ollie and hand ghostride kickflip.

Here is a video of the last trick: http://youtu.be/kguh6GFfBSE

To find out what these tricks are and how to do it visit YouTube and type in longboard tricks and you will find them.

How to Do Magic Tricks For Fun – Removing Your Shirt by Magic!

[ad_1]

This a great party trick and will really make people believe you have extraordinary powers.

How The Trick Appears To The Audience

The Magician is dressed wearing a jacket with a shirt and tie. He asks someone to tie his wrists together as tightly as they can with a roll of sellotape or parcel tape. There is no doubt that his hands are bound together so tightly that he will have to be cut loose. The Magician tells the audience he will demonstrate how to pass one solid object through another. The Magician then goes into another room for a minute. When he steps back into the room, he is still wearing the jacket and tie but has removed his shirt! His hands are still securely bound and no one has a clue as to how he did it!

How The Trick Is Done

This trick seems impossible but is really quite simple. To prepare for the trick you take off your shirt and then put it back over your shoulders like a cloak. Without putting your arms in the sleeves, button up the collar and the top three or four buttons. Then, again without putting your arms in the sleeves, button the cuffs around your wrists. Put your tie on as normally and then your jacket. If you have done it properly, it will just look as though you are wearing your clothes normally and no one will suspect a thing.

The Performance

When you are ready to perform the trick ask someone to bind your wrists together with sellotape or parcel tape. Make sure they do it tightly, so everyone can see it will be impossible for you to remove your hands with being cut free.

When they have bound your wrists, tell them that you are going to demonstrate how to defy the laws of physics and pass one solid object through another.

You tell them that you are going to step outside the door for a moment and when you knock on the door, they must open the door and let you back in.

When you are in the other room use your fingers to undo your collar buttons. Then loosen your tie and slide it off over the top of your head; however, do not untie it. Undo the rest of your shirt buttons and unbutton your cuff buttons with your teeth. This sounds difficult but is actually quite easy to do.

Grab the the collar of your shirt at the back of your neck and pull upwards. You will find that your can pull your shirt out of your jacket. Put your tie back on and tighten it. Place the shirt over your arm and knock on the door.

When they open the door, your audience will amazed to see that you have managed to pass your shirt  through your tie and jacket!

This trick is so unusual and so weird, that people will remember it for years to come.

Driving Tips – Breaking the Fixed Stare

[ad_1]

What happens before most all collisions? The driver has a fixed stare. That is why the most common comment after a collision (other than “It’s not my fault!!”) is “I just didn’t see him.”

Breaking the fixed stare is a challenge for all drivers – not just beginners. Remember, if you look at an object for longer than two seconds, you begin to lose your peripheral vision (the vision that enables us to detect movement from the sides).

So, how do we break the fixed stare pattern? There are several ways. Here are some that you want to coach while you are in the vehicle with your teen driver.

Turn your head slightly as you before you enter and pass intersections without lights or signs. (The tendency here is to stare straight ahead – never assume that the other drivers will yield or stop.)

  1. Check the mirror before slowing, changing lanes or turning and again after turning.
  2. Use S.M.O.G. for your lane change sequence.
  3. Turn your head to scan the intersection while you are counting 1-2-3 after the vehicle ahead of you has started to move (this occurs when you are back in the pack at a light and the light turns green – wait until the vehicle directly in front of you moves before you start your count).
  4. Use commentary while clearing the intersections.

Yes, there are more things you can do to break the fixed stare and in the next ezine, I will discuss how you can develop a figure eight search pattern to help make your eye movements more fluid.

How Recycling and Reusing Building Materials Saves Money While Protecting the Environment

[ad_1]

Sustainable building is, without a doubt, the future of the construction industry. As pressure for environmentally-friendly building practices increases, companies are discovering that ultimately, ‘going green’ saves cash. Recycling and reusing construction materials is a smart decision for all builders whether they are interested in environmentally-friendly building or not. Here are a few steps that may be taken to increase efficiency and reduce waste generated by construction activities.

Increasing the volume of recycled materials is an easy place to start. Research local material recovery facilities to check for rebate programs. As landfill rates have gone up, more and more contractors are looking for ways to increase recycling. To prevent useful construction debris from further clogging landfills, many material recovery facilities offer financial incentives for builders to recycle. These programs offer per ton discounts on debris that builders bring in.

Reusing materials is also a great way to cut down on jobsite waste. Many tools, wood/metal debris, and plastic products can be reused during the construction process to reduce costs. Another option is to donate used materials. Donating materials to non-profit organizations such as Rebuilding Together and Habitat for Humanity gives contractors the option to declare a tax deduction. Contractors can feel good about donating to organizations that improve their communities while simultaneously saving money.

Although many builders feel that environmental regulations for water and energy use are an inconvenient burden, they can be used advantageously. Emphasizing green building and waste reduction policies is great for public relations and, if implemented effectively, can reduce a business’ bottom line. LEED buildings are becoming increasingly popular as energy prices rise. Although energy efficiency costs more up front, it saves home and business owners a significant amount of money in the long run. Environmentally-friendly construction is becoming increasingly important to consumers; businesses who embrace sustainable building practices now will have an edge in the future home/business market over those that do not.

Taking precautions to minimize waste is one of the easiest ways to go green. Protecting newly installed finishes in a residential or commercial site saves money on potential replacement supplies and reduces waste. Companies like Builders Site Protection are happy to provide building companies with recommendations for recycled or reusable surface protection materials.

These are only a few steps builders can take to increase sustainability and reduce waste. Recycling and reusing materials not only helps the environment, it also has the potential to save contractors money.

Do You Know the Benefits of Green Cleaning?

[ad_1]

Any family can benefit from green cleaning. When you clean green, you do not use any harmful chemicals or abrasive products in the cleaning process. Imagine the benefits of having bleach quality clean floors without having to have the harmful toxins contained in bleach in your home. Of course, when you consider green cleaning supplies, you also need to consider the benefits to the overall environment. These supplies are non-toxic, but they are also environmentally safe.

The family will benefit from green cleaning products in a number of ways. Here are some of those ways to keep in mind.

Allergies Reduced

Many families find that their children are suffering from allergies, even though their family history does not necessary say that there are no allergies. In some situations, chemicals found within cleaning products contain allergens. Bleaches, toxic cleaning sprays and other chemicals used to clean the home commonly contain a variety of ingredients specifically able to cause or trigger allergies in people. Children and the elderly are most likely to suffer from them, since they have weaker immune systems, but anyone can suffer from them. Most people do not make the correlation between the allergies and the chemicals, though.

Less Toxic Risk

Many chemicals contain toxins, including poisonous elements, cancer causing irritants, skin irritants, and harmful products for your respiratory system. Each of these is likely in your cabinet right now. They are there at the risk of a child drinking them. They can also be a risk of inhaling these products when they are sprayed into the air or applied to surfaces. There are many instances where you can easily ingest products that are unhealthy for you that contain chemicals on them. Even trace amounts of some chemicals can and do build up in your system, with the potential to lead to heart and lung conditions, including cancers.

More Risks Examined

There are many other risks associated with traditional cleaning products. These are some of the reasons you should consider green cleaning. Even if you do not do the cleaning yourself, but hire a professional cleaning service, the key is to look for the “green” factor.

  • Chemicals applied to counter tops or sponges will rinse down the drain into the water sources for your home. If there are a large amount of chemicals being used, the fumes from those chemicals can be dangerous coming up from the drain. Inhaling them can have immediate effects.
  • Some chemicals have extraordinary risks associated with them when individuals are exposed to them. A chemical called alkyl phenol ethoxylate is commonly used in many types of surface cleaners. You may use it to clean your tabletops or the cabinets in your home. In some lab studies, there is evidence that these products wind up in water sources where they cause reproductive effects in wildlife.

You may be asking, then, why should you buy green products? The answers are everywhere. No matter if you are to buy green cleaning products or you hire a professional company using green cleaning products, the key is to have them in your home instead of having other, more potentially dangerous chemicals in your home.

  • When you clean green, you avoid exposing your family to the harmful toxins in many of these products.
  • You reduce the environmental impact of your home and family on the environment around you.
  • You are using non-hazardous products, those that provide your family with safety even when you do turn your back for a second and your toddler climbs into the cabinet.
  • Buying products that are green cleaning products is also much less likely to use as much packaging and these products are often biodegradable.
  • Sometimes, you can reduce your costs by not having to purchase costly products.

Clean green one way or the other. Call on your local service company to provide you with the green cleaning you need. Be sure to purchase only products that have been tested to be safe to use within the home. You will be happy you did when your family’s health improves from the lack of chemicals in the home.

High Rep Bodyweight Leg Training Builds Legendary Conditioning!

[ad_1]

Leg training is a brutal type of training that many stay away from. Many think leg training in either running or gym work, and yes this is a form of leg training but leg training is so much more and more brutal than anyone could ever think.

Bodyweight training has come a long way, and just as it was making its way back bodyweight training went in another direction, it moved from standard more traditional bodyweight to gymnastic or circus type movements using about the same rep scheme as traditional weight training.

High rep bodyweight training is often over looked as a way only to condition the body and conditioning being the only benefit. The fact is when people try high rep conditioning they find that it is extremely difficult and instead of saying that it’s too tough they switch to less volume and more rest time.

Today’s society has more people training than ever before, and there are many types of training out there, there is something for everyone and everyone has the best way to train. The problem is people don’t stick with things long enough to get results or the training is too difficult to do and they move on.

Most people focus on glamor muscles, muscles that look good and that are not very useful. Magazine covers show amazing muscled up body of a man or woman that people think they can identify with and in reality it’s a dream.

The higher the reps and the higher the intensity, the harder the muscles work, and more oxygen is needed in the muscles and this where most men quit, this is called training to failure.

Stopping at failure trains the body to quit when the going gets tough, when you push on a little farther mental toughness is built. The pain is extreme the rests are short the results dramatic.

Leg conditioning is a whole different animal, it is the most result producing type of exercise you can do for building muscle, burning fat and building a level of conditioning that is almost superhuman. For years I avoided any real leg training because I thought that it would slow me down. Years later I found that leg training with high reps are workouts that make men.

Any one can train the upper body and most focus the majority of training on muscles that can be displayed easily.

The upper body is idolized, while the lower body is demonized. It’s a wicked way to live, but the benefits are great.

Workout that can be used is 50 jump squats and 50 pushups resting 1 minute and repeating this 3 times. Simple concept amazing benefits.
