Volvo Set To Launch Massive UK Ad Campaign For C30

[ad_1]

At the 2006 Paris Motor Show, Volvo unveiled their smallest car to date – the three-door, four-seater hatchback C30. The vehicle also became one of the reasons for Volvo’s reentry to the 2007 Montreal Auto Show. Currently, the C30 is about to be launched in the United Kingdom and Volvo is about to commence their biggest ad campaign in more than ten years.

The Volvo C30 is aimed at the younger generation of car buyers and the said ad campaign will be aimed at the mentioned age bracket. The C30 needs all the push it can give especially since it is going up against popular brands such as Alfa Romeo, Audi and Volkswagen.

The ad campaign is now seen as one of the most radical steps that Volvo has taken in recent memory. With a national advertising campaign, it seems that Volvo has pulled all the stops to give the C30 significant boost going into the UK car market. Volvo will us the “What do you think?” tagline in their ad campaign which will cover television, print, outdoor, and digital mediums. The ad campaign will be launched on May 4 and is primarily aimed to gauge the opinion of the motoring public concerning the Volvo C30.

The first 18 days of the ad campaign will see Volvo covering different mediums in order to promote the C30. After that initial salvo, Volvo will then start to design the four and a half months of advertising the special model features found on the Volvo C30. At these ad campaigns, one of the attributes of the C30 that will be highlighted is its fuel efficiency. This is, of course, aimed at car buyers who are concerned about the increasing threat of global warming. Its small size, while giving the C30 good fuel economy also allows the vehicle to navigate around urban areas.

Anita Fox, the head of marketing communications for Volvo UK touts the C30 launch as the boldest advertising endeavor ever taken by Volvo. “The C30 launch heralds Volvo’s most radical marketing campaign ever. It had been designed to captivate a much younger, marketing savvy, target audience, and breakout of the traditional Volvo values that are not relevant to this audience,” says Fox.

The ad campaign when launched can be likened to a Volvo clutch when engaged for it then unleashes the power of the engine. The same can be said for the ad campaign which when launched will unleash the advertising power of Volvo. The ad campaign will begin with 10 second television ads, then a longer 20 second ads will be shown all over UK. During the same time, Volvo will also use colored print ads will be posted on selected daily, weekly, and monthly publication. Outdoor posters will also be used by Volvo in the promotion of the C30. All of these will encourage consumers to visit Volvo’s Freewill website where they will be invited to post their comments on the C30.

Techshield Roof Decking – Roof Sheeting That Pays For Itself

[ad_1]

We recently built a garage for a customer who requested Techshield roof deck be used in his construction. After doing a little research on this product and actually using it on this project I felt the need to offering my customers this as a option on every job.

Techshield is made by LP and is a thin but durable layer of aluminum applied to oriented strand board sheeting. It is designed to not only keep heat out of attic spaces, but also help keep conditioned spaces more efficient. The foil side is installed down towards the attic, the radiant barrier is a highly reflective and low emitting material that helps reduce the solar heat gain in the attic space. According to LP Techshield will prevent 97% radiant heat from penetrating the panel into the attic Techshield is installed like any other roof sheeting, It should be noted that this does not eliminate the need for attic insulation. Techshield will not create any problems with roofing shingles and most shingle manufactures back their warranties, as long they are installed properly.

I was surprised by the relative minimum cost difference over regular OSB roof sheeting ,on this particular job it was only about $4.00/ sheet, adding only about $100.00 of additional cost to the homeowner. The potential energy cost saving to a homeowner, using this product in home construction would be immediate and over the years substantial. The initial up front cost would probably be recovered in the first year in utility savings. But the advantages of this product cannot be measured in dollars alone. Most garages and storage sheds are not heated and cooled ,thus anything that can be done to lower interior temperatures inside these buildings is a positive. During the construction of this job the temperatures were well into the 90″s and just walking inside the structure you could tell a substantial difference. The manufacture claims up to a 30 degree reduction in a homes attic space temperatures with use of this product if you only get ½ of that Techshield will be well worth the investment and in garages and storage sheds even a small temperature reduction can make a big difference. We will now offer this option to all of our garage and storage shed customers.

Bunk Bed Bedroom Furniture

[ad_1]

Bunk beds are the premier way of saving space in a small bedroom. Many kids like them, because they are fun to sleep on and give their friends a place to stay when they sleep over. The most common materials that bunks are made from are wood or metal. They are more durable and can be anchored to the wall if need be.

  • Bunk bed bedroom furniture is functional for people of all ages because of the many different types of bunk beds bedroom furniture available.
  • Any room that has limited space can benefit from having bunk beds. Here are some of the different types of bunk bed bedroom furniture and how they can be used.

Traditional

  • Traditional bunks are twin over twin beds. Sometimes the beds are attached so that one sits directly over the other, while other times the bottom bed is not attached so that it can sit lengthwise underneath the upper bunk.

Traditional bunk bed bedroom furniture was originally created for the Navy to maximize space on submarines. The more beds they could put in a smaller space the fewer bedrooms that they needed on a submarine.

When sailors came home from being on the ships and submarines, they found that with the more children they had.

Play Structures

  • Some bunk beds bedroom furniture sets come decorated as a play set.
  • There is sometimes a slide to get off the upper bed or the lower bed will be surrounded as if in a fortress so that kids can play. This set up was especially useful in places that received a lot of rain.
  • Because parents did not want their children playing in the park and catching cold from the wet, they created bedroom furniture to include a play structure so that children could still be creative and have imaginative, fun play inside the house on rainy days.

For Teens

  • Beds for teens are a little different from the traditional model.
  • Often times, these beds are a full or queen size mattress under a twin size bed.
  • Some manufacturers also produce full over full bunk bed bedroom furniture sets if you have multiple teenagers living in your home.
  • This is also ideal for roommates that live in single bedroom apartments.

For Students

  • Student housing at University is very cramped. To make the best economical space, “student bunk beds” are often used.
  • These student bunks are a loft style bunk bed that sits higher off the ground with a desk attached to either the bed frame or one that just sits underneath the bed. This creates more space in the small room for a wardrobe closet as well as whatever else you would care to put in your room.
  • This is the ultimate space saver for University so that they can use more space for classrooms instead of bedrooms.

For Studios

  • Studio apartments are the smallest apartments you can rent. Your living room, bedroom and kitchen are all in the same space.
  • To create the best functionality in this small area, studio bunk beds bedroom furniture sets are ideal.
  • These sets have a loft twin bed with a full size futon underneath. You can unfold the futon and sleep on it like a bed if you choose or you can leave it in its upright position and use it as a couch.

How to Bulletproof Your Nissan Patrol’s ZD30 Engine

[ad_1]

If you own a Y61/GU Nissan Patrol with a ZD30 3.0ltr turbo diesel engine, these are invaluable tips to help you increase the life expectancy of your engine……

The ZD30 engine has suffered a poor reputation for premature failures including melting/cracking pistons and overboosting, largely due to some common issues. These engines run a variable vain turbocharger with boost controlled by the ECU, and to meet stringent european emission standards run an exhaust gas recirculation (EGR) system. Running fairly high boost levels from factory causes the ZD30 to be a heavy breathing engine and oil vapour is forced into the inlet tract contaminating the Mass Air Flow sensor (MAF), working its way through the intercooler and into the inlet manifold. The EGR system can turn this oil vapour into a thick tar like consistency, blocking inlet runners, which in turn can lead to some cylinders running rich and some lean, resulting in melted pistons…

What can be done to maximize engine life?

1. Fit an oil/air seperator (catch can). This will reduce the amount of oil vapour/blowby entering the air inlet system.

2. Regularly clean the Mass Air Flow (MAF) sensor located in the inlet pipe near the airbox. A contaminated MAF sensor can cause faulty signals to the ECU resulting in overboosting. Suitable MAF cleaners are available from your local auto parts store.

3. Fit a boost gauge and an exhaust gas temperature (EGT) gauge. Whilst this won’t prevent anything, it will give you a heads up of any warning signs.

4. Fit a free flowing exhaust system, this will lower EGT’s dramatically. We fit and recommend 3″ mandrel bent exhaust systems.

5. Never fit a “Chip” without doing the exhaust system as well. A chip will increase the amount of fuel into the engine, increasing your exhaust gas temperatures, so a free flowing exhaust system is required to lower the EGT’s. We use and recommend Steinbauer and DP chips.

6. If you are noticing boost pressure spikes over 20psi (upto 25psi is not uncommon), fit a boost limiting device such as a dawes valve. These can be set so that the turbo can’t boost over say 18psi…… This is a bandaid not a cure, as their will be other issues causing the overboosting.

7. If your intercooler looks as though it has oil leaking from it, it can also leak boost pressure. Replacement units where the tanks are welded on instead of the factory crimp fittings are available.

8. Have your inlet manifold removed and cleaned. We have seen inlet runners closest to the EGR almost 50% blocked.

9. Although illegal, their are EGR blank off kits available.

10. ZD30’s need regular oil changes, every 5000k is recommended.

Tips To Save Money With Simple Electricity-Usage Management

[ad_1]

By implementing some energy-saving tips you can lower your electric bill and save more of your money for other things to buy. Taking care of these extra steps may seem like extra work on your part, but if saving money by increasing energy efficiency is your goal, these actions can bring you success.

These tips are intended to spur your imagination and set up an activity that might lead you into a situation where you could discover additional action-steps on your own. I hope they become a valuable asset for you.

Conservation through High technology

Many simple purchases such as (1) Smart Strip LCG4 Energy Saving Power Strip with Auto-switching Technology and (2) P3 International P4400 Kill-A-Watt Electricity Usage Monitor can help you dramatically reduce your costs over time. These products represent only two of many similar high-tech devices that contribute to saving electricity usage and will ultimately help you keep more of your money.

Air-Conditioning Inspections

Nearly every condensing unit will require cleaning. If heavily impacted coils are discovered this will require time and chemicals that go beyond normal, routine maintenance. This is why it is prudent to contact a professional representative to get the job done. Once you get the coil cleaned, it’ll be considerably cheaper for you to have them come out every year and keep it clean.

Air-Tight Home

Check all seals around all windows mounted on your home. Cutting down on the amount of cold air entering your living environment will keep your furnace in a better state of efficiency by eliminating the number of on and off cycles of operation and thus less draw on the current grid.

Attic and Wall Insulation

Does your home need more insulation? Unless your home was constructed with special attention to energy efficiency, adding insulation will probably reduce your utility bills. Much of the existing housing stock in the United States was not insulated to the levels used today. Older homes are likely to use more energy than newer homes, leading to higher heating and air-conditioning bills.

Quick Action Tips

(1) Reduce the temperature setting of your hot water tank to save energy. (2) Turn off lights and all that other devices that are not in use. (3) Since older electrical appliances use more energy then newer ones it is wiser to replace them then to fix them. It is also a smart move to look for an energy star on the new appliance to further your effort to save energy.

Put these tips into immediate action and you will discover improvements in the costs associated with your home’s energy consumption.

Patient Safety: Vigilance, Cyber Awareness, and Take Action

[ad_1]

Regulatory requirements, such as The Joint Commission and the Occupational Safety and Health Administration require safety inspections be carried out at regular intervals to assure patient safety. The Nurse Practice Act also requires nurses to safely operate all equipment and use medical devices properly during patient care. When new equipment is introduced to a patient care area, a competency verification should be conducted of the responsible staff who will be using the equipment. This competency verification is typically maintained in the personnel file of the employee for future reference if necessary.

Nurses are taught at some time during their training to always look at the electrical cords of all equipment because a frayed cord is a potential fire hazard. This remains to be true. The temperature of solutions used in heating and cooling pads or blankets may also pose a risk of injury to the patient if the fluid is too hot or too cold. Burns have resulted from improper regulation of temperature associated with a variety of patient care treatment devices. As crazy as it may sound, a simple non-invasive blood pressure cuff has caused patient harm. The device inflated to extreme pressures intermittently over a period of time that ultimately caused permanent nerve damage to the patient’s arm resulting in a clawed hand. A list of equipment frequently involved in patient care issues includes, but is not limited to, the following: volumetric infusion pumps, patient controlled analgesic pumps, blood glucose testing devices, heating pads, cooling/heating blankets, non-invasive blood pressure cuffs, nasal cannula tubing, leg immobilizers, patient lifts, and continuous positive airway pressure machines. An injury exposing the Achilles tendon of an elderly person resulted from a leg immobilizer. The patient’s skin was not checked on a regular basis and as ordered by the physician for breakdown.

Cyber Risk

It seems obvious that inspecting equipment and / or medical devices on periodic regular intervals is a patient safety issue. Inspecting or evaluating the proper functioning of medical equipment should be an added consideration at the time of, or immediately following a rapid response event. We live in a world where amazing cyber technology exists therefore, health care providers must now consider the possibility that technical equipment may have malfunctioned which may have originated from a cyber source. This possibility would never have been considered before. Hacking Healthcare IT in 2016 was published by the Institute for Critical Infrastructure describing how devices that are blue-tooth enabled and have access to the internet, such as automatic implantable cardioverter-defibrillator and pacemakers, patient controlled analgesic pumps, and insulin pumps are at risk for being hacked or reprogrammed.

Take Action:

1. Be hyper-vigilant and open to possibilities of contributing factors never considered before.

2. Conduct a survey of the equipment in the room at the time of the event and inspect it carefully as soon as possible after a Rapid Response or a Code situation. If in doubt, take equipment out of circulation; send it to biomedical engineering for inspection and record your action on an incident report, occurrence report, or a variance report (whatever your institution may call the form). Let the professionals trained in biomedical engineering determine when to return the equipment of concern back to available inventory.

3. Double check the medication rates programmed in the infusion pumps. Sometimes the programming is not correct and guess who is going to held accountable? That’s right You! Double check the pumps by calculating the math yourself.

4. Record the temperature on any equipment or device that displays a temperature. For example: fluid warmers, blanket/pad warmers, heating/cooling blankets, crib warmers, etc. When the temperature is recorded, the medical record conveys that the health care provider was paying attention to details which will support your clinical competence should it be questioned.

Gluten Free Chocolate Cake – Simply Good

[ad_1]

There are times when simple is enough; in fact it is more than enough, it is perfect. This is a gluten-free chocolate cake for just those times; after a casual dinner with family or friends, on a rainy afternoon curled up with a good book and a cup of coffee or in the evening snuggling with a loved one watching a movie on the couch. I love this cake warm with just a sprinkling of powdered sugar. It is chocolaty, dense and not too sweet. Of course you can always glam it up if you feel so inclined. Glaze it with chocolate ganache, frost with your favorite icing or split into layers, spread with jam and dollop with lightly whipped cream. This cake is like a great pair of jeans; comfortable, reliable and easy to dress up or down. Take your ingredients out of the fridge and let come to room temperature about half an hour before starting the cake. You can substitute the flours and starches with your favorite all purpose gluten free flour blend if you like. If there is already xanthan gum in the blend, leave it out of the recipe.

Simply Good Chocolate Cake

Ingredients:

½ cup superfine white rice flour

½ cup sweet sorghum flour

½ cup superfine sweet rice flour

½ cup tapioca starch

1 teaspoon xanthan gum

1 teaspoon baking powder

½ teaspoon baking soda

½ teaspoon kosher or fine sea salt

1 teaspoon instant espresso powder (optional but intensifies the chocolate taste)

2 tablespoons unsweetened cocoa powder

1 stick unsalted butter, at room temperature

¾ cup granulated sugar

2 large eggs, at room temperature

1 cup sour cream, at room temperature

1 cup semisweet chocolate chips, melted and cooled slightly

1 teaspoon pure vanilla extract

Directions:

Position a rack in the center of the oven and preheat oven to 350 degrees. Lightly spray an 8 inch cake pan with gluten-free non-stick cooking spray, cut a piece of parchment to fit the bottom of the pan, place it in the pan and spray that lightly. In a medium mixing bowl whisk together the flours, tapioca starch, xanthan gum, baking powder, baking soda, salt, espresso and cocoa powders. In a mixing bowl of an electric mixer, preferably fitted with a paddle attachment, cream together the butter and sugar on medium high speed until light, about 2 minutes. Scrape down the sides of the bowl, turn the mixer to low and add the eggs one at a time, mixing well after each addition. With the mixer on low, slowly add half the flour mixture, the sour cream and then the remaining flour mixture. Add the melted chocolate and vanilla and mix until just blended. The batter will be thick. Using a spatula, give the batter a final mix by hand to make sure all the ingredients are fully incorporated. Put the batter into the prepared pan. Bake for 25 – 30 minutes or until a tooth pick inserted in the center comes out clean. Let cool in pan for 5 minutes and then transfer to a wire rack to finish cooling. Serve warm, room temperature or cold.

An Explanation of How Heat Pumps Work

[ad_1]

Heat Pumps are devices which use small quantities of energy in order to move heat from one place to another. Usually they are used to pull heat from the air or the ground in order to warm a building. They can also be reversed in order to cool a building. They work much the same way as air conditioners do, except that they can do the work of both an air conditioner and a furnace. Therefore, when using heat pumps it is not necessary to install both heating and cooling systems – a single system performs both jobs. They are also more efficient than furnaces because they merely transfer heat rather than burn fuels to make it; but as a result, they work better in moderate rather than extreme climates. For people in moderate climates like Arizona, using heat pumps Arizona rather than furnaces and air conditioners can save considerable money on utility bills.

There are different types of heat pumps, but all of them operate on the principle of heat transfer, which means moving heat from one location to another rather than burning fuel to create it. Because of the second law of thermodynamics, heat naturally tends to flow from a place with a high temperature to one with a lower temperature. They use small amounts of energy to reverse that process, pulling heat from low temperature areas and moving it to high temperature areas – from a heat source such as the ground or air to a heat sink such as a building. A common type of heat pump is an air source one, which removes heat from air outside a building and pumps it through coils filled with refrigerant to the inside.

Air source heat pumps AZ consist of two fans, the refrigerator coils, a compressor and a reversing valve. One fan is used to bring outside air over the refrigerator coils, which transfer the heat inside where it is blown from the coils by a second fan and distributed through the building. The purpose of the reversing valve is to reverse the flow of refrigerant so the system operates backwards. Instead of pumping the heat inside the building, it releases the heat, like an air conditioner does. Then the refrigerant absorbs the heat inside the pump and carries it outside where it is released. Then the refrigerant cools down and flows back inside to take more heat.

Ground source heat pumps work the same way as air source ones except they absorb the heat from the ground, or from a body of water under the ground, and then transfer the heat indoors or vice versa when working in reverse mode. An absorption heat pump AZ is an air source unit which is powered by solar energy, propane, natural gas, or geothermically heated water instead of by electricity. The chief difference between air source models and absorption pumps is that instead of compressing the refrigerant, absorption ones absorb ammonia into water then a low power pump pressurizes it. The heat source boils the ammonia from the water and the process begins anew.

The Most Common Causes of Commercial Roof Repairs

[ad_1]

The roof is a business’s first line of defense against the elements. With proper care and maintenance, most systems will last for over 10 years, but damage does happen. Here are some of the most common causes of commercial roof repairs that business owners should look for throughout the year.

Faulty or Damaged Flashing

Metal flashing covers seams and joints to keep water and debris out of the underlayment. When the flashing is damaged or improperly installed, moisture can collect in the materials. Over time, this can lead to leaks inside the building and can cause long-term damage to the structure.

Pooling Water

Many commercial buildings utilize a flat roof system. Though typically durable and easy to maintain, flat options are susceptible to pooling water, especially in spring and winter. When water collects and does not run off the structure, it can speed up deterioration and force the business owner to schedule commercial roof repairs sooner than would otherwise be necessary.

Blow-Offs

Houses can be damaged by intense winds, and commercial structures are no different. During windstorms or extreme gusts, free materials can catch the wind and become detached from the surface. If the wind is strong enough, the materials can blow off the underlayment completely, leaving a portion of the surface unprotected from the elements. Routine commercial roof repairs will keep this risk to a minimum.

Lack of Maintenance

Regular maintenance is key to extending the life of a commercial roofing system. If a business owner schedules periodic inspections as the seasons change or calls a repair professional at the first sign of damage, the system will last for many years. However, if the materials are not maintained properly, they will break down prematurely and require expensive replacement or repairs.

Low-Hanging Branches

While this problem is more common in residential areas, some businesses are subject to damage from low-hanging branches. As trees move in the wind, their branches scrape along the surface of buildings, damaging the materials, siding, and even the seal between the outer roofing materials and the waterproof membrane underneath. Trimming the low-hanging branches back should be enough to keep the materials in good condition.

Poor Ventilation

Roofing systems require good ventilation to protect the building. If there’s too much heat buildup or improper ventilation in the attic space, the structure can become compromised. The glue and sealant can weaken and cause blisters or air bubbles, while also putting undue stress on the attic’s framework.

Age

The older the structure, the more frequently repairs will need to be made. Since areas break down over time, it’s important to schedule routine inspections every year. During these inspections, a roofer will examine the integrity of the materials and recommend the proper course of action to help an older structure last as long as possible. Business owners should note that the system will need to be replaced eventually. Also, if they have to make repair calls several times each month, it may be best to replace the roof entirely.

All business owners should watch for these common signs of damage so they can keep their building as safe as possible.
