A Horse Training Secret From The 1800’s To Teach A Horse To Drive Without Lines!

[ad_1]

Horse owners who are history buffs may recognize the name Jesse Beery. Beery was an enormously famous horse trainer from the 1800’s and early 1900’s.

He learned to train horses at a very young age. It was clear he had a gift for horse training and made it his life’s work.

Among the almost countless things Beery could do with a horse, he taught them tricks. One of the most amazing tricks he taught was teaching a horse to drive without lines. (In layman’s terms, you have no long reins (known as lines) connected to the horse. The only connection to the horse is the buggy hitched to the horse) This trick almost defies belief!

Beery said this about driving a horse without lines: “While I do not advocate it as being a universally practical way of driving a horse, yet it is possible to so thoroughly train the horse to certain signals that he can be controlled more reliably under excitement and in case of danger than it would be possible to manage him with bridle and lines.”

Beery says there are a number of ways to teach this to a horse but suggests his method as the most reliable.

In a nutshell, Beery first turned his horse loose in an enclosure about twenty-five feet square. He would walk in with a whip and teach the horse to have confidence in him and not fear the whip. (The horse is never whipped).

Once the horse has learned to come to handler at the command of “Come Here” and shows no fear of the whip while it’s gently waved over his head and body, and will follow the handler all about the ring, then you have laid a good foundation for further instruction.

Put the horse away until the next day where the horse learns signals of the whip.

That process is as follows: Stand close the the horse’s hip and take a short whip and tap lightly on the right shoulder until the horse, in anticipation of driving a fly off, will swing his head around to where the tapping is. Step forward quickly and hand him a few oats, or a small piece of apple, almost in the act of turning his head around. Step back and continue the tapping and rewarding.

After a while, in his eagerness for the reward, he will take a step or two to the right when the tapping begins. Then caress him and treat him very kindly for that act. Soon, the idea will be conveyed that when tapped on the shoulder the horse will know to turn in that direction.

Remember to train both sides of the horse.

Once both sides are trained now an open bridle can be put on. Use short lines that come back as far as his tail only – but they are used only if he becomes unruly or to convey your idea to him.

The handler’s whip should not be over five feet long at this stage and the handler should stand directly behind the horse. (Beware of kickers) Let the whip extend to about the middle of his mane.

The signal you wish for him to stop for is raising the whip and holding it in a perpendicular position. Associate the meaning of this movement, and position, just as the whip is raised so the horse can see it. Pull hard on the reins and say “Whoa” – all at the same time. After a few repetitions the horse will know what to do. (Assuming you have thoroughly educated your horse to whoa)

The first few times he stops without a pull of the reins step forward and reward him immediately. Much of the success of teaching this trick depends upon how you give the rewards. If the reward is given in a manner so that the horse can fully comprehend it was complying with the handler’s wish, it will greatly enhance fixing this impression on the horse’s brain.

But if not given in the right manner, the reward will be worse than none at all.

In the same manner, the horse is taught to turn left and right. This is done by giving the horse a pretty smart tap on the lower part of the shoulder and immediately place the point of the whip three or four feet in that direction. Should he attempt to jump and go ahead too much, you can hold him in check with the action and signal to stop him.

Essentially, these are Beery’s instructions for training a horse to drive without lines. It’s important to note this is a shortened version of Beery’s instructions and there is more to know.

Things to Consider When Installing a Glass Sink in Your Bathroom

[ad_1]

If you’re having a glass sink installed in your bathroom, you’ll want to be confident that it’s going to stand the test of time.

Many people can be initially daunted by the prospect of a glass washbasin, but if you use the right methods of cleaning and care, it can prove incredibly study and durable – as well as giving your home a sleek and contemporary look.

On the whole, bathroom sinks, bathtubs and toilets are manufactured to withstand high temperatures and impact – even if they are made from glass. But it’s still important to care for them correctly to make sure they continue to serve you well.

No doubt when you were deciding which basin to bring into your home you took the durability of each material into consideration, but will still want to do everything you can to avoid having to replace it in the future. Obviously the method for cleaning and care will differ from stone or ceramic basins.

In terms of durability, caring for your washbasin begins at installation. It is always recommended that a professional plumber installs your sink, as the leading cause of breakage tends to be poor installation. The next thing to consider is how you will look after your new bathroom feature.

If the basin is made from glass, you’ll want to make sure you never pour scaling water into it. This is because a dramatic, immediate change in temperature can cause it to shatter and break, even though glass will usually withstand temperatures of up to 21 degrees Celsius.

It’s also important to make sure it is installed with a glass ring support underneath; this will make sure it stays tight and leak-free. A ring support can be particularly effective if the basin is being mounted on a marble or granite work surface.

Another thing to bear in mind if you’re opting for a glass basin is that it will be see-through. This means that excessive sealant will be visible through the material, so be mindful of how much silicone you use and where you apply it.

As you will already know, glass is also prone to shattering, even if it is high-quality, so make sure the plumber who installs your new wash basin knows to tighten the waste by hand, rather than using a spanner or wrench.

For further security, make sure you opt for a sink made from safety glass, which will be resistant to small accidental breakage – such as dropping a brush or bottle into it. However, be aware that a heavy object will shatter a glass basin – just as it would if it were made from porcelain.

Similarly, most glass basin manufacturers recommend that they should not be installed in areas where indoor temperatures aren’t regulated, as vast variances in climate can cause thermal shock – ultimately breaking the glass.

Unfortunately, one of the dangers of glass is that thermal shock could also cause it to shatter. Due to the nature of the material, once a breakage has occurred, however minor, the entire sink would need to be replaced for it to remain safe for use.

When it comes to cleaning, glass basins don’t require any special method, although it’s best to avoid using abrasive bathroom cleaning products, as these will permanently scar the glass. For similar reasons, don’t use scourers or rough pads.

The best way to clean a glass basin is with a soft cloth, vinegar and water – as you would clean a window. This will remove water spot and keep it looking sparkling clean.

So, when they are treated properly, glass basins can prove incredibly resistant to wear and tear, and will stay looking as beautiful as the day they were purchased.

[ad_1]

When moving from one place to another, one of the most important things to consider is the packing job. Of course, there are many other aspects of the shifting procedure that need your attention. However, packing is one of those few shoddy tasks that can spoil everything, if not done in the proper way. Even if you hire the best packers and movers in the nation, anything can go wrong at any point of time.

You appoint the most renowned company around, plan every aspect of the moving process, save lots of cash, and arrive at your new residence on time. Sound perfect – doesn’t it? Sadly, it’s just a dream or reverie for most of the people. You can get everything right and yet, land up with a few broken furniture or expensive commodities. It is highly frustrating and extremely distressing when you lose something precious or expensive. Luckily, you can avoid this situation with the help of the right packing agency.

These days, there are countless agencies out there, offering packing and moving services. Nevertheless, only a few of these organizations are high-tech in their business approach. Although you may think that hiring somebody with knowledge and positive online reviews is enough, the fact is something different; you must pay attention to the technology used by the company as well. The more advanced it is, the better for you. A lot of relocating agencies still use the age-old technologies, in terms of shifting. In the present world, a modern and high-tech shifting company always has the upper hand. Here are a few top benefits of appointing a high-tech packing and moving company.

Online resources make the shift simpler

If a shifting firm gives you loose sheets of paper that include your moving agreement and other related documents, you may easily lose them in the shuffle. However, if these agencies have an online move organizer where you easily see all your documents, you’ll never lose track of them. If you have any doubt or query, you can easily go through these papers at any point of time. When an agency keeps all credentials in an online set up, everything remains structured and well-organized.

Easy shipment tracking

Probably one of the biggest advantages of appointing these high-tech movers is that you can track your shipment on the Web. This is highly beneficial, particularly for a long-distance moving process; you can easily see the place and time of the arrival. Professional moving companies constantly stay in touch with you and update you about the present status of your shipment.

Salutary Neglect

[ad_1]

The strict Salutary Neglect policy arose from Great Britain’s endeavor to promote prosperity within the Colonies. This act was endorsed by St. Andrews Episcopal, and existed from 1607-1763. It was enacted in an attempt to limit English control over the American Colonies by permitting more freedoms to the pilgrims. This policy imperatively developed American society in legislative assemblies, commerce, and religion.

Salutary Neglect led to the formation of legislative assemblies within the colonies due to the lack of governing influence in North America. Citizens exercised their newfound freedom and formed legislative assemblies leading to the establishment of their own government. The movement towards a governmental system by legislative assemblies was provoked by the unjust rule of the British monarchy. The English colonists’ strived to achieve a Democratic government of choice, distinctly separate and essentially improved upon from the heredity of a malicious monarchy. These diligent efforts led to the formation of the House of Burgesses in 1619, the leading sovereign government; additionally they led to the creation of the Mayflower Compact, which would later form the American Constitution.

Salutary Neglect’s influence on the colonies was crucial to the development of many aspects within the American society; of course commerce was no exception. The newly established freedoms in legislature were responsible for managing colonial commerce, which relied profoundly upon the Triangular Trade, foreign trade, and colonial trade. Though the British tried to control colonial trade with the Navigation Acts in 1650, procrastinated enforcement of these policies disrupted foreign trade, and severely angered colonists. The necessities so bountifully relied upon, along with the trade relations amongst fellow countries had been severed by the ravenous ways of England.

The effect of Great Britain’s Salutary Neglect policy on American society had a devastating impact on religion within the colonies. Primarily, colonists experienced extraordinary religious tolerance and freedom. Elated by their divergence from the Church of England new spiritual liberties led Puritan colonists to desirably center the importance of open creed. With this perception focused in the minds of the colonists The Great Awakening commenced, spreading renown amongst the colonies, people flocked to the churches seeking salvation without persecution. In the early 1730’s, this revelation toward the protestant religion, which had been taxed and unfairly elevated within England for the past decades, was finally concluded. Colonists could devout their beings into the divine sanctity of the “Holy Spirit”, and achieve salvation in their own manner. The freedom of worship revitalized the colonists who had been chronically oppressed by the fallaciously greedy ideas of the Church of England were abolished to the new world.

Religious persecution toward the pilgrims forced them to migrate from the inadequate religious foundation and vicious tariffs of England. The colonist had to break free from England’s distant dictatorship and excel on a pure set of freedoms, which still divide the world in major differences; defending and fighting for these arguable entities create our individuality. Developing the liberation of Democratic government has made the colonies unique, and for that uniqueness the colonists fought. From Plymouth Rock, to the first representative government of the new world, House of Burgees, to all those that died of dysentery and smallpox colonist fought, colonist fought to impede the formation of the United States of England.

Applying for a Schengen Visa: General Rules

[ad_1]

If you are staying in the UK on a student, work and spouse visas or Limited or Indefinite Leave to Remain, you can apply for a Schengen visa from this country. But if you have come to the United Kingdom on a visitor, tourist or business visa, you do not have the right of obtaining a Schengen visa from here, this must be done in the country of your permanent residency.

Just being a resident in the UK is not enough though, one must have been living here for some time before he or she can apply for a visa. For instance, a person may apply for a visa for France only 1 month after they entered the United Kingdom; Italy and Switzerland require at least a 3 months period and Spain – 6 months.

Here is an example of how this works. We were contacted by a person looking to obtain the Italian Schengen visa. He holds the ancestral visa in the United Kingdom, has a job here but he arrived in this country only one month ago.

As we mentioned before, the Italian consulate will issue a visa only when the applicant has spent at least three months in the UK; but this requirement can be overlooked if you hold the ancestral or spouse UK visa, EEA Family Member card or if you depend on someone who has been living in the UK for over three months. As our customer holds the ancestral UK visa, he has strong connections with a person permanently living in this country and this person can come out as the visa application sponsor. He or she will have to provide evidence of their residency and financial stability (bank statements), employment (letter from work), relationship (marriage or birth certificate) and support (letter stating that the Schengen visa applicant will be supported by this person).

If it is possible for you to collect all those documents, you will not have to wait for 1, 3 or 6 months to be able to apply for a Schengen visa.

Here are two things you can do to keep away of complications when applying for a Schengen visa. Open a current bank account as soon as you come to the UK – monthly statements will support your application a lot. They will be seen as proof of your permanent UK residency and finances. The other thing is a job. An employed applicant has better chances of getting a longer term Schengen visa. If a person works – it means that he or she not only resides permanently in the UK and receives stable income but also has ties with the country. Those things are very important to any Schengen consulate and they will greatly help your visa application.

6 Benefits of Using LED Lighting

[ad_1]

LED lighting is the most eco-friendly, the cleanest and the most energy-efficient way to illuminate an outdoor or indoor space. There are plenty of style, use and cost saving reasons to install this type of light. Here are six of the major benefits of using LED bulbs:

Long life

One of the easiest benefits to understand is the long life. LED bulbs have a usable lifespan in the region of 100,000 hours. This has the potential to provide nearly 20 years of use with the light in use for about 8 hours per day. The low output level is one of the reasons for the longer operational life. Also, the long life span means there is a lot less maintenance work to complete.

Energy efficient

The LED bulbs are nearly 80% to 90% more energy-efficient compared to the traditional alternatives. The incandescent lights are less efficient because of the amount of heat they produce, which isn’t a problem with LED bulbs. The ability to save energy is most noticeable in large infrastructure projects, such as airports, railroads and cities. For instance, a typical airport has the ability to save about 30% more energy compared to using traditional lights.

Eco-Friendly

LED bulbs are entirely free of toxic chemicals, such as mercury, which can have a negative impact on the environment. They are 100% recyclable and a useful option to let individual households cut their carbon footprint. Also, this type of bulb can last about 25 longer than the incandescent which means there is a lot of material saved in the production process.

Durable Quality

The LEDs are built to be tough and durable and a practical option for outdoor use even in the most difficult conditions. They are built to be resistant to external impacts, vibrations and shock. The resilient nature makes the lights practical for manufacturing and construction sites. They are also usable in low temperatures without experiencing issues with normal operation.

Low UV Emissions

The LED bulbs produce low UV emissions and low infrared light. The low heat emission makes the lights a practical choice for materials and goods that are highly sensitive to sources of heat. Also, there are plenty of UV sensitive materials in art galleries and museums that preferred this light source.

Flexibility

LEDs make it possible to create a wide range of light effects. This type of light is dimmable for complete ease in controlling its distribution and color.

Automatic Pool Cleaner Reviews

[ad_1]

The purpose of this review is to compare two similar pool cleaners. I would like to start with the Baracuda and Kreepy Krauly. The brands mentioned come in several different models and are of the suction type pool cleaners.

I have been in the pool service business for 30 years. I personally own 60 pool cleaners. I know what you are thinking, why would I own so many cleaners? Well it is like this, I place the cleaner in my customer’s pool to keep the pool as clean as possible. When I arrive to service the pool there is less work and I can service more pools in any given day. So as you can see I have a lot of experience with pool cleaners.

Now back to the review, the Baracuda and Kreepy, both work by being connected to the skimmer or a dedicated line. The best thing about them is that they only have one moving part so if anything breaks it is usually the part that moves.

The Kreepy uses a flapper or hammer as its moving part. When suction is applied the flapper starts moving back and forth in a chamber. The hammer action propels the Kreepy forward. It does make some noise as the flapper moves back and forth. The suction also vacuums up the dirt and small leaves.

The Baracuda has a diaphragm, as the water passes through the diaphragm it expands and contracts. This is what causes the cleaner to move across the bottom of the pool. The diaphragm makes no noise as it works which is something to be considered. The suction also vacuums up the dirt and small leaves as the sweep moves across the pool.

Having one part makes the two cleaners cheap to operate. Although the rubber disk and foot pad will at some point wear out. These are great cleaners if you understand they are not a perfect solution, one must still perform some maintenance on the pool.

Some of the problems with these cleaners is they can get stuck. You have to work with them to solve the problem. Some of the solutions are shorting the hose or weights can be added to the hose. One problem with the Kreepy is it can get stuck on the antivortex drains that are on the bottom of in ground pools. They do make a device that can be placed around the drain and the Kreepy passes over it with out any problems. The Baracuda can become stuck on the drain but this seldom happens.

The best solution for these problems is a steering device that hooks into the automatic pool cleaner hose. The name of the device is called the Twister. This is a great little device that rotates and turns the automatic pool cleaner in different directions. This helps the cleaner to become free if stuck.

The Twister is powered by the constant flow of water through the pool cleaner hose. A paddle wheel spins inside the Twister and transfers drive to the pool hose, counter-rotating the hose about 3 times per hour.

If you are looking for an inexpensive way to purchase a pool cleaner, then buy the Baracuda Wahoo. This is a very low priced automatic pool cleaner. In fact it is meant for above ground pools but can be used with in ground pools. I have put it in several in ground pools that have a lot of leaves and dirt and it does a great job. In fact I have several that have worked trouble free for over a year. There is one draw back if the manufacturer finds out that it is used for an in ground pool the warranty is void. Like I said I have had no problems with any of the cleaners. The Wahoo and Twister make a great cleaning system and for the money they cannot be beat. For the price the Baracuda and Kreepy are excellent cleaners and should be placed on your list of possible buys.

Know the Signs of Botulism

[ad_1]

Botulism is a rare but very dangerous form of food poisoning caused by the bacteria Clostridium botulinum. As the Clostridium bacteria grow, they emit a powerful neurotoxin, or nerve toxin. This neurotoxin attacks the victim’s central nervous system, starting in the muscles of the eyes and the face. The first symptoms may be blurred vision, dry mouth and problems swallowing. The victim may complain of double vision and dizziness, and the eyelids may droop. The victim may also experience muscle weakness, and speech may be slurred. Babies and very young children will appear lethargic, flaccid, and be constipated. All of these symptoms reflect the process of the progressive muscle paralysis.

If treatment is not started, the paralysis progresses to the throat and chest, and then to arms and legs, the abdominal muscles and the muscles that regulate breathing. When the neurotoxin affects the diaphragm and other muscles of the chest, breathing is interfered with, and if the patient is not treated aggressively, he or she may die from asphyxiation.

One of the difficulties in treating botulism is up front. Botulism can be diagnosed by symptoms, but to rule out other possible diseases or sources of neurotoxins, a lab test must be done that requires injecting a sample of the patient’s blood or stool into a mouse; it takes 48 hours to determine whether the bacteria are growing in the mouse. If botulism is suspected, and diagnosis is prompt, treatment may focus on removing any remaining contaminated food by inducing vomiting or initiating enemas. Treatment also will involve an antitoxin, a substance that interferes with the action of the botulin toxin in the bloodstream. Antitoxin treatment can prevent the disease from progressing, but the patient may continue to experience the disabling symptoms for months. If the disorder has progressed to involvement of the respiratory muscles, the patient may require a ventilator to assist with breathing.

Spores of Clostridium bacteria are widely distributed in soil, both in the wild and in farmland, in lake and stream beds, and in animals, in the intestinal tracts of mammals and fish, and in the gills of crabs and shellfish. Despite its prevalence, Clostridium botulinum becomes a threat only when conditions are ripe for the spores to grow and produce their potent neurotoxin. Failure to bring food to sufficient temperature to kill spores, contaminated canning or preserving equipment, and uneviscerated fish (their guts left in when they’re canned) have all been implicated in botulism outbreaks

Many episodes of botulism result from home canning, especially of green beans, in which temperatures were not sufficiently high to kill all the spores. Sausage, baby foods, and canned foods such as smoked salmon spread, chili and beef stew have all been identified as the source of botulism poisoning. Any can that looks swollen is suspect and should not be used.

If you or a loved one have suffered the serious effects of botulism poisoning, and you believe that an improperly prepared food was the source of the poisoning, you should meet as soon as possible with an experienced food poisoning lawyer to see whether you have a claim. You should act as soon as possible, before evidence that could identify the source of the food is lost or destroyed.
